New Yorkie ?'s sampoo, snacks, ect. I have had my yorkie for about 2 days now. She is currently 2 lbs, 8 weeks old. Her mom and dad were both about 5lbs. I have seen alot of discussion on pet shampoos but don't know really what to use. I have seen great things about petsilk but the closest place to get it is 2 1/2 hours. A lady that had her yorkie at the vet yesterday told me to use J&J baby shampoo and on the back of the coat not the head regular conditioner, but I'm not sure this is the best. Her dog looked more greasy than silky. Also Cora is doing a great job at going outside to potty. We have only had one accident in the house which was totally my fault I was trying to do something real quick right after she woke up. I want to offer her some kind of snack as a reward but don't want to keep her from eating. Any ideas for snacks? Also any advice to get her to not act like I am killing her at night when we put her in the crate? I leave it open all day and put small pieces of her food & toys in it. If I am really busy during the day and cant watch her then I put her in there. Yesterday during the day she cried for about 2 min when I put her in the crate the first time and the rest of the day she did really good. Last night was another story, and today we have been in once and she cried and cried. I feel bad but if I just turn around and let her out I know it isn't going to work. I want her in the crate for bedtime since she is so small I have seen horror stories of people getting up during the night and accidently stepping on the yorkie which has a very bad outcome most of the time. I am open to any advice you may have. Thanks so much for the help & if there is anything else you think I should be aware of please feel free to tell me since this is my first yorkie. She is soo cute I will post pics soon. |
Hi! :wavey: Welcome! :welcome4: :yorkiesar Love her name, Cora, very cute! Not a lot of answers but there are several YT members that sell good shampoo's and conditioner's and homemade treats. There's a list in the Yorkie Product section, I believe. Also carrots or apple make good snacks. |
First of all, congratulations on the new addition! Also, welcome! :welcome4: I cant wait to see pictures of her! Well done on the house traiing, that's a brillianet start, I hope it continues for you! But if if does take a dip (and more often than not it does! lol) dont panic, it's only natural. If you want to reward her, I'd just give lots, and lots of praise personally. A great food reward I discovered when my Chi was training was baked, chopped liver. Now I know that might sound a bit yucky, but I guarantee it, your pup will adore it! :p All you do is bake a large piece of liver in the oven and then, with scissors, snip it into tiny, bite size pieces. If you make them small enough it wont fill her. Another trick is to only use this treat as a reward for training so she associates something she really loves with training. More likely to get the result you desire! ;) All pups will cry at first when you start to use a crate, just give her time. It's still very early days and I expect she just needs time to settle in. Using a crate at night, and when you cant be with her, is an excellent idea while you're house training! Keep up the good work hon, you're doing brillaintly! ;) Jess :heart to |
Oh my goodness, I completely forgot all about your first question! lol  D'oh! To be honest I dont really know about shampoos nd conditioners and am hoping find out a bit more myself! In the past I've used baby shampoo for my doggies but I'm not sure if that's a very good idea or not. There are so many brands it's hard to know which one, isn't it? Sorry to be a bit useless with that bit! lol Jess :heart to |
congrats on your new baby!!! i don't know much about crate training since belle sleeps w/ me on the bed but she's almost 8lbs... as for treats, yorkie yummies are good training treats... we've also done carrots before she likes those, but make her poo orange LOL |
Congrats on the new baby! Aren't they great! ;) I'm a new mommy as well, but I am learning as I go. A friend of ours that is a breeder uses Suave Smoothers for shampoo all over, then Pet Silk conditioner on hers. Her babies are beautiful! Also, sounds like she's doing awesome with her potty training. If you are interested in Pet Silk, tiger's mom on her sells it on her site. go.fetch™ (I think that's the address.) |
