Need opinion with food Hello YT ok I wanted to get some input on food. I have been feeding Chewy Royal Caine indoor toy breed for dogs under 6 lbs, he's been on Royal Caine since he was about 14 weeks old. He's never itched or has done anything unusual to make me think he is having a reaction to the food. He is one years old now and seems to be fine with the food. My question, is this good food to feed him or do you recommend another? Thanks so much |
I completely recommend innova's evo. my baby was on the royal canin yorkie diet until about a month ago and he has changed ten-fold! he is happier and healthier already :) |
I just to feed Phoebe when she was a puppy Royal Canin but she starting like itching so I change her food to California Natural she did great, then I got a puppy so I change it to Natural Balance duck, but I also home cook for them and mixed with the kibbles:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
My babies eat Merrick... It has been fantastic. Sorry but I have not heard good things about Royal Canin, Rocco's breeder had him on it and I started weening him off of it and onto Merrick after he got adjusted at home... Good luck in whatever you decide! You are bound to get a lot of great suggestions. I would also suggest you post this in "health & diet" section |
i recommend nature's variety Raw diet. :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: |
Royal Canine is ok. I don't think their ingredients are the best, but they aren't horrible. I personally woudln't feed EVO because it has a ridiculously high amount of fat. Natural Balance is a good food as is Wellness and Orijen. if you are doubting the food you are feedin it probably wouldn't hurt to look around and try other foods! |
If your little one is doing well on RC and it is not presenting any issues then that is great! If you are determined to try other brands, I would suggest looking at the sticky in the Health and Diet section. It has a list of some of the more recommended (YT member recommended in any case) brands of food. You may also want to try this site: Dog Food Review Ratings It will link you to several sites that examine commercial brands, home cooking, raw feeding, supplements, etc. Keep in mind that what is best for one person's dog may not be best for YOUR dog. Do some trial and run test with feeding different brands to your little one and examine the results. Be sure when you switch foods to do it gradually to avoid digestional issues, rather than all at once. |

Dog review ratings is a great site but now I am even more confused. Thought Innova EVO kibble was good but not for small dogs. Tricksie is on it, almost out. What to switch too?? A person could spend hours on research. What about starting a poll the best foods for Yorkies? |

The Evo canned is very high in fat as is the Innova canned. The kibbles may be more normal. Feeding high fat to Yorkies is not something I'd want to do because it could set off pancreatitis which can be fatal in some cases. |

I feed the kibble |

The canned is over 30%, I think. I'm not sure what is considered high but Ellie is on 18% which is fine for her. I think after 20% I might start questioning but 22% might be okay for most dogs. |
