Do Yorkies like to be alone or have a pal? I have a 5 month old neutered male yorkie that I just love. I'd really love to get another male as a friend for him and well for me too! My vet says they do better in pairs. I have the time and the money to devote to both dogs. My question is do Yorkies typically like to be the only dog or do they truely enjoy having a buddy? Id hate to get another only to find out this breed is one that doesn't like to have another dog around. Kind of like Siamese cats. Who aren't partial to other cats. They like to be the only cat in most cases Any help is appreciated as this is my first Yorkie. He is great and it has been such smooth sailing!.:animal36 |
I don't know, but what I do know is not all dogs are alike. Maxwell is quiet and doesn't bark outside of his home. He only barks when he sees activity outside the door or fence at home. There is a neighbor has a Yorkie, tho he is older and he barks & tries to run towards anyone coming down the road when we have walked together. Maxwell, just loooks at him and wonders I think, what is going on. |

Mine love being together. It is funny my 3 yorkies stick together and will have nothing to do with my Shih tzu. It is like they know he is different. |

Since we got Suzi (5 months), my Katie (16 months) has been a different dog. They're always together and get on really well. She was too quiet before we got Suzi. Hugs Shirl x x |
Callie likes to go and play with with dogs at the dog park and stuff but she likes being the only dog. She would not want to share her family and love and stuff. I used to want to get another yorkie but Callie is just not the type of yorkie for another yorkie and its not that shes mean or anything she just wants all the attention and to be in charge and such. But lots of of dogs like to be in pairs like my mom has two begal mixes about a year and a half between there ages and if one goes to the vet and the other is left they will howl or cry (depending on which one is left, buddy howls daisy crys lol) and bark and everything. So I think it really just depends on the dog and there personality. |
All I can speak for is Gracie. She thoroughly enjoys having a little sister around to keep her company while I am at work. Dogs are pack animals by nature, which tells me they prefer not to be alone. However, you need to attempt to find a pal that will be compatible. I suggest doing it sooner rather than later, and involving your current baby in the selection process. |
Welcome!! :) I think it depends on your dogs personality. I know that my toy poodle hates being alone, we take her everywhere that we can because we cant stand hearing her whine and cry from her kennel.She gets so stressed out. :( (all my dogs are crate trained and stay in thier crate when we arent home, I feel that its for thier own saftey) my other 2 dogs are fine with being alone. Im hoping that when Tucker comes home that it will help her relax a little and we can leave her home a little more often. |
Bentley loves when we go visting other people who have dogs. esp. my friend ashley who has two yorkies of her own (jack and jill), also jack and jill get along great with one another. so i dont think it would be an issue. also it might depend on your furbaby's personality, try taking her to a puppy park, or even pet smart play sessions to see how she interacts with other dogs. :) |
Mine is very much a loner and rather not have any other animal in the house but the humans. Then only the two humans not the rest. JL |
