Reaction to DH's sneezing, coughing etc
 

Just before my husband sneezes, Tricksie runs and barks at him, also if he coughs or blows his nose. Even if he is in a different room, she will go running to him. She completely ignores me when I do these things.:confused::confused:

She's sensing something different in him, like the alert dogs do.

It's actually a good thing.

I used to have a Quaker who would scream "choo!" about the same time I would say "ah!" There's something about sneezing that gets an animal's attention.

Well,NOW, I am worried. We had a Maltese and he started bleeding from his penis, I took him to many Vets, even to the University of MN, they could not find out why he was bleeding. Finally a Vet in Fl. said that he was chewing his penis. Found out that my husband had prostrate cancer. After the treatments and my husband was cancer free, my maltese quit.

Ooops! Maybe it's time to get hubby to the Dr. for a checkup ... Just to ease everyone's mind :confused:

I have seen a lot of stories about animals instincts to illnesses.

They really do read us! Many of you know that I lost my brother recently and my 4 beasts won't leave me alone. I have to move the three little ones off my body before I can move and the gentle giant usually has his head on my lap. I would imagine that this will continue until my grief subsides.

I am so sorry, I didn't know about your brother. They are comforting you and I am sure share your grief. Know it will get better in time.

I'm sorry Donnarod, I wasn't trying to highjack your thread but thank you. Anyway, Skeeter and Adie (but especially Skeeter) will bark at just about any noise they find unfamiliar. If my husband gets up in the night they always pitch a fit. I can get up and they just quietly tag along behind me.
We are getting used to a new house so it is particularly bad right now.

I don't think there is anything wrong, he goes for his check up's every 6 months, but I find her behavior strange.

Here is my take on this you have a dog that is sound sensitive and I am wondering if it dislikes thunder and fireworks and door bells.
It is a loud noise and it spooks them and they respond.

She is scared of storms, but, she can be relaxing on my chest and I sneeze and she ignores me. My house is not small and when he is 3 rooms away, blows his nose and she goes running and barking to him? Wonder what Cesar"s analysis would be?

I thinking it sound phobia and she learned a great skill of coping by going to you for help and you have learned to help.
Dogs hear at a much greater level then we do so it can trigger the bark even far away.
We had a dog that responded to a gun clib miles from his house and we could not hear but he sure could.

Sorry, I don't understand what you are telling me.
When she reacts to his sneezing, etc. she is excited with him as if she wants to play. She doesn't come to me. She is not afraid of it just happy and excited. She has such a wonderful personality.

Since they do have exceptional hearing, she may be hearing him before he really lets go. :p Moms are always the last to get that kind of service. ;)

Exactly, she knows before it happens.

My Border Collie goes nuts when anyone coughs or sneezes, she runs around and barks like a crazy girl!

OK follow this she is scared of stroms. Loud sound
Sneeze is a loud sound and she raeting to it. you say in play and excitement and it maybe but not sure just how skilled you are in reading dog body language it could be appeasment moves.
You say she goes before he sneezes, I saying with her senceativity I think she hears some intact of air or movment to a sneeze you do not.
You sneeze your mom and bonded to her in a way that she may not be with Dad or you have dainty lady like ones.

She does hear the air interaction before he sneezes, I do too.
She is so funny.
I have a closet in my bedroom that I rarely use, she decided that she wanted to investigate and she kept standing at the door until I opened it. That was a few weeks ago, today, she is missing, there she is at the doors again, I ingnored her and she would come get me to go back to the bedroom.
She does something everyday that amazes me.
