Hi I am new here and have a question about my Yorkie! Hi all! I wanted to say hello - I am new here and just got my first Yorkie yesterday. I have wanted one for years now and even after only a day I am soooo in love!!!! I do have a medical issue which I have posted in the appropriate forum here.... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ood-stool.html I also have a non-emergency (I hope) question for all your Yorkie experts.... Oh, by the way, my Yorkie is Frankie and he is 4 months old and weighs 4.3 pounds. I am Gina and we live in New Jersey. my Question: I haven't heard him make a noise in the 30 hours I've had him...no bark, whimper, cry, etc. Nothing. I've had puppies before and I remember being kept up at night from the pups crying. I know some puppies don't bark until they are older but he hasn't made even one sound. He threw up today (from the stress I think) and even then he didn't even make a gagging noise. I know he is under stress from the flight (he came from a breeder in Missouri and flew to me yesterday) and just in general getting use to me and his new home. Is the non-noise something to be concerned about? Look forward to getting to know all of you. thanks, Gina |
Hi Gina, Welcome to YT. I'm no expert, but I bought Chloe 4 months ago. She was 6 months old at the time. She did not bark, cry, beg for food or anything normal for a puppy at that age regularly does until we had her around 3-4 days. She was abuised by the previous owners and I think she may have been scared if she did anything to make us mad then she would be in trouble. Of course, she is spoiled rotten now and I can't get her to shut up! Ha Ha!!! I'm sure your little furbaby will come around. I'm sure your baby is trying to get used to his surroundings. Hi and welcome. I am certainly no expert either but I would take him first off to the vet and have him checked out. Sometimes blood in the stool can be caused by just changing foods. Better safe than sorry so I would let the vet know asap. |
Hi Gina and welcome to YT!!! Can't wait to see pics of your furbaby!! I would def. take him to the vet....just to make sure he's doing ok.....and my baby was very quiet when I first got her too.........so just give him some time and I bet he'll be making ALOT of noise before you know it!!! |

Also... it reminds me of the joke where little Jimmy never said a word until he was 6 years old. The parents were devastated and had taken him from doctor to doctor... nothing. Then one morning when he was eating breakfast he suddenly said: "The salt is missing!" His mother stood with her mouth open "But... but... Jimmy! You can talk! Why did you never say anything befor?" When I first got Chewy, (she was flown to me also), she was SO shy and hid under the kitchen table for DAYS! I felt so bad and kept calling the breeder etc... She came around though, was prolly just scared from the plane ride then being in a new environment with new people... The bloody stool could be a problem though. My dogs have had that before and I think it's Giardia or something? They had to take meds to get better. I'd take her to the vet to get tested and see, but she'll be fine. And she'll definitely be vocal before you know it ;) |

As far as the "quietness" of your little one...Give him time. he was put on a plane and probably scared to death. Believe me! enjoy him being quiet! It won't last long. LOL...When I brought Sadie home she never made a peep! She was put in her crate at night and we never heard her...which I thought was unusual being I got her WAYYY to early (7wks),...Lillie on the other had is very vocal! LOL...She kept us up for 4 nights in a row..She is a whiner...Whines all the time when she wants attention...which is all the time. I have a new baby granddaughter and when I have her at the house (all day on Fridays) Lillie will stand by her swing and whine the entire time she is here...If I talk to the baby Lillie whines...I have to hold her in order for her to stop. So....with that said....enjoy the silence!! and Good luck with your new little furboy! |
Hi guys! Well, you were correct....he is making noise. Boy, is he making noise!!!! I am enjoying him so much! And I'm not doing well with the crate training....I feel so bad and he doesn't like being in there. I tried confining him to the kitchen....I didn't have a baby gate so I built my own barrier. Little stinker slipped right thru my barrier!!! That little devil. I think crate training is going to be hard on both of us. Thanks for all your warm welcomes. Gina and Frankiexxoo P.S. He hasn't pooped again for me yet so I can't tell if there is blood still left. I am giving him the rice and beef and I'm thinking the rice is going to bind him a little so he may not poop until tomorrow. Here's hoping there is no more blood |
Hi! That's great he's doing better!:thumbup: Lily doesn't really like her crate, but it is necessary. Of course she would rather be on our lap! I picked my first pup up at the breeders and drove home with him (only about an hour or so). But even at that, he was quiet and quite shy. When I brought the second pup home, she was quiet the whole drive, but when we got home an she saw the first pup, everything was fine. I think being by themselves with no one else their size, not to mention the TRAUMA of flying (air pressure changes, *NOISE*, strange people) and being away from Mom and siblings for the first time ... well, *you'd* be quiet too, while you were trying to figure out what happened. I haven't read your other thread, so I may be suggesting something already said, but worms can make for a bit of bloody stool, especially roundworms. Worms are very common in puppies ... nothing that can't be cured quite handily. But, as others have said, you really should get the pup to the vet ASAP for a check-up, just to ensure he's healthy. Here's to a long, healthy and happy relationship with your new pup! |
