Oh no, Roxy's paw got stuck in the door!
 

We just took Roxy for a walk (probably her 6th walk ever) and we live in a condo building with a heavy glass front door. Anyways, I was having a convo with my husband, and wasn't paying attention at how fast the door was shutting behind me, when all of a sudden a hear this horrible yelping, and I see Roxy's back paw is stuck underneath the heavy main door, and she's on the ground just freaking out! I pulled her out as fast as I could and brought her back inside and sat on the step with her trying to calm her down and touch her paw to make sure it was ok. She was yelping when I touched and held her paw the first few seconds, and then calmed down a bit and stopped crying. She was still scared, but I had to take some pictures outside for someone so we decided to continue on with our walk. Understandably, she was rather scared and didn't want to walk so we carried her for the first bit, and then put her down again to see if she would walk. She was so scared and didn't want to walk even if we dragged her and talked her through it, although her foot seemed to be ok. After walking a bit more, we put her down on the grass and she didn't mind walking on that, although she kept her tail in between her legs. We coaxed her through it a bit, and she was really scared to walk on the gravel path that we always walk on because of the sound of the gravel. basically I think she is really scared of noises behind her now, like something is going to get her again, because after a while she was ok with walking again, although she was causious, but if my husband started walking behind us she would stop walking and just try and lay down on the edge of the path. She seemed to get a little bit better on the rest of our walk, but whenwe got to the pavement by our condo she didn't want to walk anymore and we ended up dragging her a bit before I picked her up and went inside. As soon as we got in our condo she seemed just fine. She doesn't seem to be bothered by her foot at all, and we gave her a bully stick and she's bouncing around like crazy and jumping up on the couch, so I'm pretty sure she's fine.

Basically my question is how do I ensure that Roxy won't get scared from going on walks or going through doors. I don't want her to have a phobia of these things in the future. I see on the dog whisperer that Ceaser makes the dog go past their fears several times in an exercise type thing, to get them used to the things their afraid of. I don't want to baby Roxy and give into her fears. Has anyone had an issue with something like this before?

So glad she is ok, I don't think she is going to have a problem going through doors or a walks, maybe you can give her some treats and will help keeping her motivated:p:aimeeyork:thumbup:

Thanks, I just feel awful about it. My poor baby, she was so excited to go, and then it turned into a traumatic event. I really hope she won't be scared to go on a walk again.....:(
