Clothes make him matted Does ne one have a problem with their yorkie and clothes? I love to dres him but his hair gets sooo matted when i take them off.. It looks like static (sp) anyone know what I can do to prevent this or is that just gonna happen no matter what? |
Schatzie has a cottony coat and yes, she matts in anything she wears for long periods of time. So, I had to stop letting her wear clothes for long lengths of time. I usually dress her for pics or short walks etc. She too had the static clingy look, made me laugh as it was cute. Im guessing that the silkier better coats might not matt as much but Im not sure what coat your baby has?? Even loose fitting clothes can tend to matt Schatzie. I was so disapointed. :( |
I might not be any help here... but.... I love to dress my Furkids and I dont really have a major problem with static or matting.. Before I dress them up though I usually use a spray in leave on conditioner.. Maybe that would help??? |
As a maltese owner, I know your pain. However if I line her harnesses and coats with satiny fabric, it does help but does not diminish the problem altogether. I do this for many maltese owners. I even lined some belly bands with satin for my mom's maltese, it works so much better, he's definately not as matted! I have learned to take off Chloe's harness or coat as soon as we get home and brush her out, I do not leave it on her all day. |
I use the Chris Christensen- ICE ON ICE!!! Spray it on them before you put clothes on, and make sure you get the underarms really good!!!!! I have been doing this with Luig and has worked great!!! I love that product!!! The more you use it, the better it is!!!!! So far, no more matts on Luig!!!! I love him in his clothes!!!! |
Bruce has this problem too, but it is greatly reduced when I spray on some leave in conditioner and comb it through right before I dress him, and run a bounce sheet over the inside of whatever he is going to put on before I put it on him. |
I have the same problem with Gracie too. Thanks for sharing those ideas!!!!! I will try that next time I dress Gracie up! :) |

Buy dog clothes that are lined in satin. Thats supposed to keep longhaired coats from getting matted. I know this wont be possible in sweaters or shirts but you can buy coats or harnesses lined in satin. I offer that service on my website. I know several people who make and sell clothes on YT could do that for you. |
