effects of neutring hey guys.. im a first time dog owner and love my yorkie to deathh.. he is the most loving dogg with peopole he knows but gets very very very aggressive when he sees people he doesnt know.. endless barking and even attacking (this happens even when he hears someone he doesnt know).. also he is very adamant about marking his territory.. and know matter how much we take him outside to pee he will always mark his territory on the same wall inside the house.. we were considering neutering him because we heard that this will alleviate some of his aggressiveness and make him less testosterone driven.. is this rational??? he is 1 year old and about 6bls. thanks so much.. mk |
I had my springer spaniel neutered at 10 months. It seemed to mellow him. We were also able to do ALOT more training after that, because he was more attentative. I don't know if that was because of the neuter or because he was a little older. He did gain about 8lbs after he was "fixed". He was so lanky at about 31-32lbs. 3 months after his surgery he was a sturdy 40lbs!! My vet said that was normal, as long as he doens't become overwieght. Captain Jack will be 5 month this weekend. He is getting neutered in 2 weeks. I let him out to go potty sunday morning, and he ran right up to a tree in our yard and hiked his leg:eek: I made the appointment the next day!!! I thought he was very young to be hiking!!!! He hiked it so high he almost fell over backward... it was so funny....but only for a second....I am definitely against hiking!!! |
Bobby got neutered almost a month ago. He is 16 months old. Prior to neutering he would mark. Not so much inside but everwhere outside. He also would get anxious around other dogs. He would get so excited to see them and would try to mount them. Everyone told me that this behavior would not change after the neutering, its only been a month, but I can tell you that he doesn't mark the house, or outside anymore, he even reverted back to squatting when he goes potty sometimes. I took him to petsmart and he was much calmer around other dogs. I haven't had him near any dogs off leash yet, but I have a feeling he will be a lot calmer. His personality did not change which is great. Cause he is such a doll! I think it was the best decision we made. Good luck! |
