Questioning my vet.... I called to inquire about when Deegan gets neutered. And I took some people's advice and asked which anesthesia they used. They did say that they used Isoflorane, which was recommended by fellow YTers. But they have an additional $40 charge for a pre-surgical anesthesia test to see if he can even handle that. Another vet I called includes it and turns out to be cheaper. Another thing, my vet wants to charge me $85 to microchip him too, while all the other vets generally charge around $35-$50. And everytime I've been to see them, I've seen three different doctors. When I would rather just have one. I'm starting to question bringing Deegan there anymore. Am I overreacting? |
Are you saying that on every trip you actually see three different doctors? Are they specialists? This is something new to me. |
no i dont think so ... i can totally understand where your coming from! i would prefer to be consistant with one doc. |
I don't think you are....Maximus sees 1 vet, and the one time that I deviated from that one vet I was NOT happy. I think it is soo much more organized and better for your baby when he sees and knows 1 face and that 1 face can remebre how your baby reacted and when he is acting out of the normal more then someone who has never seen him!! |
I also paid an additional $40. to make sure Snoodles could undertake the surgery. I felt it was worth it in the long run, because otherwise, it might kill them. If you are not happy with your vet, by all means change. I did. I went in for an exam when I first got her, and he never listened to her heart or lungs, just asked me what I was feeding her. Then left the room and came back with a syringe to give her shots, and I asked if he read what I had brought from the breeder-----and he couldn't give the shot to her. Was not happy! I changed vets, and although their are 5 vets in the clinic, when I call for an appointment I always ask for the one I want! Pat |
All my girls have the same vet , the first and only time I switched because the vet was cheaper , he almost killed Venus . She was sent to the hospital where her vet was . I'll never try to find a cheaper one . |
I am sure I am paying top dollar for my vet but she's wonderful, always has Chloe and Lacey's best interest at heart, loves and hugs them, always goes the caution route because they are small pets, calls me at home to make sure they are not reacting to a shot, etc. They have appts, just like my doctor, so I never see a hundred pets in the clinic. She's even decided to get a yorkie she loved them so much. I'll never forget when I brought Chloe in, she called in an assistant because she did not want me to hold Chloe until after the shot was given, she felt they had to be the bad guys and my job was to comfort after the short, won me over forever, no matter the cost. |
Yes, I do mean that everytime we have gone there is another doctor. The second time I was a little confused because I guess that they are brothers and two of them look alot alike. So I went home to compare reciepts with their names on it. Yes, two different names. Then the third time, was another guy again. So I mentioned something to the receptionist. But to tell you the truth, the first one didn't seem bad. He answered all of my questions, and seemed to give good advice. I didn't ask anything about hypoglycemia though, because at that time I didn't know much about it. The second and third time (both different doctors), when I did happen to bring up hypoglycemia the second doctor pretty much blew it off and said "if he seems fine, he doesn't need and nutri-cal, and that there's no need to give it to him". When I saw the third doctor a week after Deegan had his hypogycemia episode, I told him about it and he pretty much blew it off like "yes, you did the right thing by giving him sugar, but you don't need to give him and nutri-cal. Only if he has another episode." I was a little upset at this because here I am trying to prevent another episode and they think nothing of it. And tell me to wait and see if it happens again. I don't want to wait to see if it happens again... I want to prevent it! As for the the pre-surgical anesthesia test for $40 extra, I would pay that in a heart beat for it to prevent something terrible. It just seems like they charge more than any other vets office, and they aren't consistent with the doctors and they don't seem to give a care when I am really concerned about something. I don't mind paying extra for anything as long as it's quality. But I don't think that I am getting quality with this vet. |
I don't think you are over reacting...I think you want what is best for Deegan. |
I don't think you are overreacting. If I were paying those prices, I would expect to see one vet and build a relationship-so that he knows my dog. |
