Leaves...how dangerous are they? I know sticks are bad for our dogs but what about leaves? Are they really dangerous for them to eat? Is it mainly a concern of scratching their throat or can leaves cause a blockage or other health issues? We have huge oak trees that hang over our deck and yard...right now I can pick up the leaves and acorns as I see them fall but soon we'll be over run with them. I would be a crazy woman if I had to chase these guys around all day pulling leaves from their mouths! How concerned do I really need to be about the leaves? Will they eventually get used to seeing them all over the place and just leave them alone? |
This is something you need to ask your vet about. I know oak leaves and acorns contain tannic acid which is extremely poisonous to horses. I have a couple of oak trees in my yard and have been concerned for my puppy too, as he likes to grab every leaf he sees and chew them. For some reason I think they are not as harmful to dogs as they are horses, but I know they are very dangerous for horses to eat. Hopefully your dog won't be so interested in them when the ground in covered! If you find out the answer, please post as I am concerned about it too! :D |
OMG like I already have enough stress chasing Squeekie when she pulls a grass and starts running (and chewing at the same time) with it. Now I have to worry about leaves????? |
