Finally!! Today at about 10 months old Dino finally JUMPED OFF THE BED!!!! My bed isn't even high but since I got him he would cry or bark when he wanted to be taken down. I was on my laptop and I feel him jump off. I put him back on the bed and he jumped off! YAY!!! Finally...now let's see if I can try to get him to get on, but that's a different story. I just had to share this with someone! |

Congratulations! I remember our big breakthrough was going up and down steps. It felt great. You might consider some doggie steps to get up on the bed. We gave them by the couch and the bed. |
I know you are excited, but you should be training him not to jump on and off furniture. Yorkies, like other toy breeds, are prone to luxating patellas (slipped knee caps) which can be caused by jumping on and off furniture. They can also tear their ACL pretty easily. Surgery to repair knees runs into the thousands. Get some pet steps as the others have suggested. Here is some information on luxating patellas. Luxating Patella: A Knee Problem in Dogs |
I would not allow Suzi to go on my bed or the couch until she could jump on and off by herself. I was so afraid she was going to get hurt. I was excited when she could do it herself too . She does this w/o any problems at all, and is 7.5 . I do not worry so much about her anymore , :D |
I know that feeling! Meeko never had a problem jumping off, just jumping on. He finally started doing it a month ago. Life is so much easier now. He would whine and bark when he wanted to be picked off, especially in the middle of the night when he'd go strecth his legs. Yay!!!! for Dino tho! |
My Peanut, who is one and a half years old, still doesn't jump off things... I can basically leave the room and she will stay put until I take her down! ;) |
