Breeding Yorkies Why will a grown female yorkie not breed? She is over 3 yrs old. Has anyone else had this problem?:aimeeyork |
LOL...maybe she's trying to tell you something. :p Maybe dogs know better than humans. ;) |
:p Maybe you are right! I have read so many stories of how people can't keep their dogs apart, and I can't get mine together :D! He tries like crazy but she snaps at him and won't have any part of it. I will probably just get her spaded. |
Have you tried a different stud? I hear sometimes that makes a difference although if she's difficult, it's probably best to spay her like you said. |
I just bought this male recently. He is 2 yrs old and has sired several litters. But she doesn't like him or any other male for that matter. |
How far along in heat is she?? Could it be that it's not her time yet? |
This is her third week. |
Smart Girl!!! Is that her in your avatar? She looks sooo tiny! Maybe she'd like a girlfriend instead;) |
Yes, that's my girl. She weighs about 4lbs, |
Maybe you're right. She might just want a girlfriend!:aimeeyork |
AWWW I would just get her fixed and let her live a happy doggy life. I would be scared to breed a 4 lb girl. haha she's not giving her goodies up! |
Someone told me it wasn't safe to have her put to sleep. What do you think? |
I would say if she is not accepting to breeding by 3 shes never gonna be |
A 4 lb dog should never be breed especially if she's tiny boned like she looks in your avatar. It is perfectly safe to have her spayed at 4 lbs as long as you are using a vet that is familiar with small breed dogs and uses safe anesthesia etc. |

Seriously though, it's no less safe than for any other dog to have anesthesia. It's a very routine, common procedure. |
Thanks guys, I think you're right. She's just too small.I will probably find her a little female roomy!:D |
My in-laws had a little 4lb malti-poo that never acted interested when she was in heat so they never worried about her. When she was 8 she started gaining weight but they never suspected a pregnancy until they found her under the bed trying to deliver a huge puppy. The vet figured that a lab had got a hold of her. My in-laws were lucky she didn't die so if you are going to spay her it is better late then never plus they say it reduces the risk of certain kinds of cancer. |
