When I first read this thread the first thing that came to my mind was a visual of this dogs ears pierced then laughter followed. I guess I didn't think it would hurt the dog to have small studs pierced, but I see cows that live next to me with their ears pierced for markings/identifications, etc. I understand that dogs are not cows but I think that I've seen dogs go through so much worse that seems so harmful. I guess society has introduced us to so much, and I've personally seen so much that at times so much doesn't shock or surprise me any longer. Not sure if this is a good thing or bad?? I guess the "piercing of the ears is just society pushing the envelope"...I am guessing that in time we will be seeing so much more done to our animals and question the normalcy of it all. I personally would probably say id never pierce Schatzie's ears but I've also learned to never say never, hahahaha. Humans pierce body parts unmentionable on YT and I can only pray that those piercings on humans don't follow onto the dogs/pets. |
I wouldnt pierce macys ears but thats me. I have enough trouble keeping track of 2 daughters earrings. I wonder if piercing a dogs ears hurts anymore than tattooing thier ears. cause im going to tatoo macys ear for identification. |
I had considered those magentic earrings that dogs can wear. But NEVER would I consider actually putting a hole in her ear. That's just not right. Or fair for that matter. Poor little thing. |
Earings on a dog? :eek: Now I've heard it all. I think badly on people who pierce their babies ears, I can't imagine how 'hot' I'd get if I came across someone who pierced their dogs ears... Then again, I'm not into the whole 'my dog is my fashion accessory' either. :rolleyes: |
Well I guess to "each his own". I don't have much of an opinion on the ear piercing issue but like someone said it can't hurt more than docking or shots. I think some people would think tatooing your dog is wrong but It might very well someday save its life or injecting a micro chip for identification. I'm not saying an earing would save its life. The thing I would worry about is if the dog would scratch at it and rip it or get an infection. I like the diamond tennis bracelet idea as a collar. :aimeeyork :confused: :thumbdown |

WOW!!! I've never heard of that before!! That is so mean! Why would someone want to put their dog in pain for no reason? That is totally unnecessary. I think if I ever seen that my jaw woulsd drop to the floor!! :eek: |

And I don't understand...where on the ear are they pierced? On the tip? On the sides? Right in the middle? If it was the tip of the ear, wouldn't the ear flop down, which is what so many of us are trying to prevent? :confused: |

The lady pierced it near the base of the ear. Which is baiscally where they scratch when they get itchy. I've noticed that it doens't bother alot of you and that is your perogative. However, like PinkMartini said, my dog is n't my fashion accesory. And shouldn't be used in that manner. I do agree that it does hurt the animal to be tattooed and have their tails docked. But it is required for showing purposes. And even though my Deegan isn't for showing purposes, it was the breeder that docked his tail before I even knew I was getting him. It wouldn't have bothered me one bit to have a full tail. I just think that there is no purpose to have their ears peirced unneccesarily it could be ripped out during play, scratching etc. And it's pain, and possible infection, for not reason other than to get attention for yourself. |

Just to offer a little perspective here, on the news last night, two dogs had died as a result of having been left tied on a hot patio all day with record temperatures being reached here in the Orlando, Florida area. I bet those dogs would have been thrilled to have had so much attention paid to them that they were taken somewhere to have their ears peirced... I wouldn't have it done to one of mine, but as has been said, can it really be that much more painful than tatooing or microchipping? And it seems I've read on here somewhere before that the inside of their ears is essentially without sensation which is why it is ok to pluck the hair from inside their ears... Perhaps we shouldn't judge too harshly... Dana |

I have never heard of such a thing! It's bad enough for a human, infection and all, but your dog? There is no way I could keep Mollie from messing with the studs, I just can't imagine. |

It's not something I would do to my babies. I think it's wrong. I wouldn't even do it to my kids. I would wait till they are old enough to decide. It's a dog, that runs around and plays and scratches it's back on the rug/grass/tree/whatever. Can you imagine how painful it would be if the stud got caught in the rug?? I think that person and other who have done, do it because they are attention hogs and they just want people to be interested in them. Yes when we dress them they also get attention but as hopefully all of us have learned, we dress them when the weather is too cold for them. While I dress my baby to keep her warm, yes of course I dress her cute and peolpe think she's cute, but at least I'm not consciously hurting her to get that attention. So for those of you who think "It's not so bad" or it's not more wrong than tail docking...think again...when tails get docked you don't have to watch them all the time to make sure their tail doesn't get stuck somewhere and rip out, or that they mail swallow it and choke to death. All for the attention. I hope it's worth it for those who want it or like or don't have a problem with it. |
