New baby crying! Well Leila's first night was really rough. I don't know why but she cried SO loud in her kennel all night. I don't understand she is use to having her own kennel when she was with the breeder. Tyson came from the same breeder and he was fine when we brought him home to stay in his kennel. I don't know what to do. My BF said to let her cry but it breaks my heart...her cry sounds like a sobbing baby :( ... anyone have an suggestions? Tyson normally sleeps with us and we wouldn't mind her sleeping with us but since she is so TINY we don't want her jumping off the bed or having and accident either....so we thought using the kennel first would be the best idea |
She was probably missing her mother and brothers / sisters . She'll have to take time to adjust to her new home . |
its strange because when I take her out and hold her or let her run around with Tyson she is fine...but as soon as I close that door she flips out...snorting and crying. I put her in her kennel this morning to take a shower and she did the same thing.... |
Well, Gracie is the same way. It just takes time for them to get used to be in the crate. :) |
She feels that she is alone . It is frequent for puppies to react like this the first days in their new homes . |

Poor baby just needs to get used to the new surroundings. My Jewels would do this and I put her crate by my bed. She would cry untill she saw me get into bed. |
Yes, it is quite an adjustment period. But that crate is going to be her private space, so don't cave in. The crying part is so hard. It breaks your heart but at the same time you don't want to teach her that if she does that you will take her out. I'd put a ticking clock in there with her and some toys (something to chew on and something to cuddle with). I teach my pups one word for quiet; I just say "hush" starting when they are small. Use a calm voice even if she is loud and tell her what a good girl she is. The sound of your voice may soothe her. Wish you much luck! |
just give her time...it took Silk like 2 months to adjust and for us to learn and adjust to her. She would cry in the middle of the night when I put her in her kennel...but her kennel was in a different room...when I moved it to my room she stopped. Now she will go into the kennel in the different room and sleep all night. Funny how she would not at first and now she will. Chris |
You should put Tyson in the crate with her during the day.... when I have pups around I usually "substitute" another dog with the remaining pup so they aren't feeling lonely. She will get used to being in the crate by herself though... I wouldn't give in to the crying (just yet). Good luck! |
I just got back from the vet with her and everything looks good said the vet. I know a lot of you said to put Tyson with her in the crate but there are a few reasons why I don't think I should: the vet said to have food available for her anytime she wants if Tyson is in there with her he will eat it all..2nd He is still getting use to a new doggie in the house...he does play with her but is territoral over some of his stuff (ie his food bowl)...I made an area in the kitchen with her crate, food and water, toys and 2 puppy pads for her to use the restroom in when I am not there. That where she was last night when she was crying. I noticed today that she wimpers and cries over other things too, like when she is in my lap and she wants to be on my shoulder...she cries...I'm starting to think that she is very spoiled....just very different than Tyson was when he was little. |
She is awefully young. A baby really. Like children, puppies are different. |
I use a playpen and I put it right next to my bed and I put the puppie's bed in that corner closest to me and I place my arm in the playpen and it keeps them calm and they think they are right wit yiu. I removemy arm when they are asleep and it they wake up I put my arm back in. I put a wee wee pad in there too so they can use that during the night if necessary. Good luck! |
I would have to find someway for her to sleep with me. Unless she will normally be crated at night. If that is the case, can her crate be in the bedroom too? |
I know how you feel when you say you can't stand to hear them cry. I can't bear it, either. :( I\'m too soft, but I am the reason none of ours ever spent a night in a kennel. |
