Finally! At 6 months old! Yes, you guessed it, she if finally potty trained. We rung the bell at the door every time we took her outside since she was 12 weeks old hoping she would catch on. Finally at 6 months old she rings the bell to go out...yeah!!!! I met a woman training a German Shepard that said her dog learned in one day! Oh well, better late than never. My kids and I love hearing her ring the bell. The only problem is she rings it a little too often as she loves going out! Bonnie and Cocoa |
Yorkies are very very smart....but they have very very small bladders...she might have caught on quicker but couldn't make it there in time. But that's awesome. I tried the bell but my dogs looked at me like i was loco. Ah well, then the big ones ripped them off of the doors to drag around by the string.....*sighs* |
Do you think that 16 weeks old is to late to start with a bell? I a still working on housebreaking Baylee. She does ok with pee pads but I would like to get her used to going outside. Last night she didnt even try to go to her pads. She just walked over by the tv and took a poo!! |
I would like to try the bell thing to. Tyke does very good at times and your right he likes to go out too several times...ugh But he is doing good for only being 15 weeks old. And he was in a cage at a feed store when we got him last week, so every time you put him in the crate at night he does his business in there. go figure, now have to break him of that.:) |
Thanks everyone for responding. Its great to read these responses. As to when to start the bell, you could train a dog at any age, its never too late. As to the small bladder thing, that could not be the case in this particular because she held it all night and all day when I am at work (7hours) since about 12 weeks. I did the pee pad thing for awhile until she could hold it longer, around 16 weeks and then outside all summer which worked nice. I gave her a treat every time she peed or pooped outside too. Although yorkies are very, very intelligent, I am noticing that she is still developing her intelligence at 6 months. When she was 3 months, she would not necessarily see a rabbit in the yard yet, for example. Whereas now she sees them before I do and chases! I think the bell thing took her a while to get because she just did not make the connection. |
:confused:My poor guy is confused.....he does his deed than goes to the door and scratches!! Soooo frustrating!! I also agree about the small bladder thing.....Teddy will hold his all day and all night...sooo I know he is a smart little cookie!....Now the tea cup yorkies might be different. |
