Calm-Quil Calming Tabs
 

Has anybody used these tablets for calming your Yorkie? I have a hyper 4 month old & saw them at Petco & would like to give them a try. Each tablet contains ginger, valerian root powder & chamomile. Dogs up to 25 lbs get one tablet & are time released. They are for behavior, stressful situations & travel.

my guess is the cure she needs is exercise. Try adding morning walk, or really intensive play session. Also she *is* a puppy, she's going to be high energy.

Drugs should not be the first course of action with a dog. The dog needs to get out and do things to tire it out and or stuff mentally like working tricks first.
A 4 month old puppy is not hyper it a puppy as yet.

Drugs any drugs especially those for behavior should be given out by a board certified vet behaviorist or recommended by a board Certified PHD animal behaviorist.

Most drugs over the counter are not tested well enough to measure if they really have an effect.
Most drugs will in some cases work the wrong way. what you want to slow them down may not be good for them to be learning under as it can create fear, as they have a foggy brain and can not understand. A baby as young as 4 months has to much to learn a few more fear stages to go through and being foggy for them not such a great thing.

I agree with the excerise first before drugs

Agree with others...lots of playing and exercise. Your baby is still very young and is going to play alot. Some grow out of it and some don't. I have two at home that play all day long and my other girl is just a diva. She's content with laying around and doing nothing. My vet recommend that she does more because she's gaining weight so I have to get her to play. It just depends on their personality. To be honest although my guys are older I would never give them anything to calm them down. I actually love to see them run and play.

Maybe try doggie dates or find a brother or sister for your baby:D:D

Your baby is just being a normal energetic 4 month old puppy .... i hope you get to play him and exercise him more and he will never need these tablets, which i never heard about before , and you be glad you have a normal happy , healthy , rambunctious baby !!!!
If you had low energy you should be concerned of hypoglycemia and else....

I agree with everyone else. Shes just a puppy and full of energy, shes way to young to even consider something like this. My guess is that she just needs some exercise and play time. My puppy is 3 months old and I would never give her something like that. I would consult a vet, but they will probably tell you the same thing. Good luck!

If you are not able to cope with your PUPPY's energy then I think you should rehome him. If you are already looking for drugs to give to your yorkie then I think you need a calmer breed such as a shi-tzu or lhasa apso or no dog at all. You might also consider adopting a senior dog from a shelter.

Is the poster asking about stressful situations or travel. Does the puppy get sick when it travels or something like that? I would not medicate if there was anyway to get around it myself, but my mom has used meds when fireworks are going off around her house for her dalmation and beagle. They would stress so bad.

You need their little mids no to be foggy as it can cause them to pick up fears if they are not able to understand in their little puppy brains what is going on. Them puppy brains have a hard enough time pulling focus withut drugs on board... but you can work desensitize a dog o travel it takes time and a post that lenght is long long long but it can be done.
Move the kennel or where the dog rides around. One wee one I had could ride in the back seat but sure as rain in april if you put it in the back wagon part you had vomit.
Do not feed it so much before travel and try through a dogs ear cd for dogs in cars.

Oh by the way I not say for dog that are older got one here on drugs. I am ok once you know what your dealing with is a chemcal or stess concern just not puppy brains learning to balnce in cars and deal with the world.

I suggest that you try DAP diffuser if you think there is stress it tried and studied and may work to drop stress.

Oh and I on the way to pick that up a DAP for a clinet with a cat concern that is stressing.

My yorkie is deifnately at his puppy stage too! but Ive found that if I play with him and give him a huge variety of toys. big small chewy soft squeaky... that he'll entertain himself to the point of exhaustion ha just give her lots of play time and a full belly and shell pass out before you know it.

He is a PUPPY. Of course he is hyper. My Katy is 5 months old and Plays,Plays,Plays all day long. I think too that this particular breed is more active than others. I agree with the other posts - lots of exercise and lots of brain stimulating toys are important. It does get better as they grow up. Actually I enjoy their puppyhood. It doesn't last that long and they are so cute in their antics.

Is it normal for a 4 month old puppy to be able to jump over a 54" gate? Is it normal for a 4 month old puppy to attack a retractable leash & almost tear it to shreds? I am afraid to walk in my back yard to put clorine in our pool because the puppy will attack my ankle again & draw blood which one time covered a paper towel. (Puppy biting has impoved somewhat but attaching during playing has not). Is this just a normal fun, loving yourkie puppie? I have had a snchunzer & carin terrier & they did not act like this. The groomer & puppy class trainer also agrees she is very over active. She is very smart like all yorkines. Learned everything she was suppose to in puppy class. I luv her to death & we are strict with her to a certain point as we all are for training purposes but where do you draw the line. She follows me everywhere so it isn't like she is afraid or mad at me. Our quiet time is when I hold her & feed her yogurt from a spoon. I knew before we adopted her this breed is fisty & can get into trouble often. We try to play with her in the back yard & take her for walks for exercise but she just goes & goes. I checked with the owners of the rest of the litter & they all say the same thing. They luv them but are driving them crazy. I will not crate her except for sleeping because she is just to overactive & crating her would make matters worst & I think that would be more cruel than the herbs I asked about. I am having her spayed when she is 6 months. I was told they settle down when this is done. Heaven help me I hope this is true. My daughter who LOVES dogs cannot believe her behavior. Don't get me wrong, she is ADORABLE! When she is good she is the BEST, but that doesn't happen too often. Please tell me you went through this & she will settle down to the lap loving dog I want.

wow... that does sound pretty bad. there is also a plug in type thing i read about on the dog whisperer. it supposedly calms them down and helps them sleep too! that might be another option to look into??
