Does anyone know... Does anyone know why dogs kick up the grass after they poop? At first I thought it was just Rocky, but my mom told me a lot of dogs do that. I think it's cute, but was wondering if anyone knows why? |
They are trying to cover it up is what I was told. |

LOL no but I can't wait for an answer! Just yesterday Bud pooped and I bent down to pick it up and he did his thing and dirt went down the top of my blouce into my bra! I yelled at him and got caught by a passer by! I was embarassed to be caught yelling at Bud for kicking dirt down my blouce:p Sometimes he get's so "into it" it's hysterical. Much like a bull ready to charge. |
Joey does the same thing in the house; I don't know if it relates to wanting to cover up the poop, or more of the attitude, look at me, I'm terrific. |
I always thought it was a territorial thing  my mini dachshund does it all the time |

They are spreading their smell around and talking to other dogs in the neighbour hood. JL |

Same here - I thought it was another way to mark territory. Rory doesn't do it, but my bullmastiff (male) always did. |
I was told they have scent glands on their feet, I'm not sure if this is actually true..... |
sweat glands on their feet!? i've never heard of that....they do sweat through their pads though! maybe its the same thing? |

They use it to I hate this word "mark" ' hi I peed here and it me fred john bob the yorkie at the corner that lives with mel.... and you are ?????' It not territory it is hay I am here and you are and wow cool. Not this is mine and you can not have it or I will eat you well unless there is a female in heat and all bets are off it that my female step off.... JL |
Isn't the funniest? Pongo and Aiden do it also. I've seen big dogs do ittoo. I think it's away to burry it,or get the scent away...who knows. Our nephew saw Aiden do it,and ran away he thought he had it on his back paws. LOL:D |
I was told that it is a way of saying "I was here." They spread their scent around so others will know all about them. |
My girl has not done this, but, I have seen other dogs ! It has to be about telling everyone that they have been there ! |
My Sophie has always done the pawing at the ground thing after a poo. My other mixed breed (3 times her size) started doing it too only after he watched her do it for several months. I also undertand it's their way of leaving their scent. |
Delilah does it after she poos. BUT she also does it when she's mad at me or when she's getting attitude. If an unknown person comes in the house she will do it while she barks. |
