Members With Mixed Breed Yorkies - Everyone Please Read Just lately I've noticed a lot of new members saying they didn't know if it was okay to post because they have a mixed breed Yorkie. It's sad to think that the debate threads about mixed breeds, etc are putting new members off posting because they feel they will be shunned. :( I'd like to say to those members please don't let threads like that put you off posting about your baby. Some members here get upset when people intentionally breed mixes and call them designer dogs, but that doesn't mean that anyone would ever be hateful or make mean comments about your dog. It's not the people that buy or rescue the mixed breeds, it's the ones breeding them just to make a quick penny. There are many mixed breed Yorkies on the forum and they are treated just the same as a purebred Yorkie. There are even "Honorary Yorkies" who have their own fans and couldn't be any less Yorkie if they tried, (Snoot the Peki and Rusty the Lab to name just two of them)... but we still enjoy seeing photos and hearing stories about them. Every single member is a dog lover and will welcome you and dog with welcome arms. :D So, I ask you all to please come out of hiding and post an introduction to yourself and your baby. Can't wait to meet you. :D |
Me too;) Come out, come out where ever you are. |
Me three! I've found YT to be a very very helpful forum and everyone is very nice and when someone is rude pretty much everyone is quick to call them out on it too. Lots of helpful members and lots of gorgeous dogs! |
I agree! Post away! |
2 Attachment(s) Besides my Yorkies I have a mixed breed and he is my pride and joy. Even if he was all I had I would still want to be on YT as it is an awesome place. I LOVE my Yorkies and Biewers but Rusty is awesome too!!!! I also have a Papillion and she is beautiful. All non-yorkie owners and mixed bred owners come out! |

I think it's more that they are unsure if this is a pure-bred Yorkies only forum. (Hence the name Yorkie-Talk.) So they ask. Seems like a legitimate question for a new member who probably has no idea what is and isn't allowed here. In any case, I agree. All should post away! There are lots of people who come here who don't even have a dog at all or who are in the process of searching for one. The only requirement is that you LOVE these little pooches! :) |
thanks! Thank you for posting this. I was a little unsure about joining because I had seen the posts with strong opinions on breed specifics. Even though I have a combo breed (1/2 yorkie 1/2 maltese) I thought, heck, I want to know more about yorkies and everyone's personal recommendations based on experience. I'm not fond of conflict so I just stay clear of the controversial threads. I appreciate everyone's warm welcome.:thumbs up |
Yes yes We don't bite...LOL:D |
I just want to add that I too LOVE all animals: Purebred or Designers :p (I mean mixes - hehehehehe) Cuddles (the white doggie in my avatar) is a Yorkie/Maltese that was being rehomed, she is a very good girl and it all just happen to fall into place. ...however, I would not actually pay a breeder for a mixed dog, I just feel that there are too many dogs (mixed) in shelters, pounds, rescues, strays that are neglected and being PTS :( |
Great thread Vickey! I read a post earlier where someone said they had joined but they were scared to post after reading a heated thread on mixing. For the record, while some argue about breeding mixes we ALL love ALL dogs including the mixes. So post away everyone and don't forget lots of pictures!:) |
I love all dogs..... They are incredible . It is OK to post, and ask questions ! Suzi just happens to be my first dog ever on my own, and i have a lot to learn ! Post away, and do not feel intmidated ! |
Great thread. When I first came to YT.. I read a thread that was so heated... that it took me awhile before I felt comfortable posting. I spent a lot of time quietly reading threads and just sending cute graphics to the friends I had made on here. So, I understand. I love this site. I have 2 Morkies and 1 Yorkie. And I love them all dearly. This site has great information, the people are wonderful, everyone is trying to help others. Yes there are some strong feelings here, but the one thing that everyone has in common is the love of dogs... all breeds.. and especially Yorkies. So, please, post away. |
This is a really good thread and thanks. As I have said before I have a chihuahua and then I have my yorkie......and as all of you state he is just as important as her (even if he were a mix). Thanks for opening this thread. |
Newbies with Yorkies +(something else) Vicky, what a great thread - thank you for once again thinking about a very special group here at YT - our Newbies with Yorkie +(something else). I agree that many are a bit timid about posting because of some of the threads about intentionally breeding the "designer dogs". So to all of you Newbies with Yorkie Mixes -- I want to get to know you better and to see pics of your furbutts. |
1 Attachment(s) Crosley is a mixed breed! She's a Yorkie-Poo and I love her to death! I have always felt welcome and love seeing and hearing about everyone's babies! Here is our 16lbs of mixed love: |

I think this thread was a great idea to start, I don't agree with cross breeding intentionally but I would never weigh that in with welcoming anyone to the forums. Please let me add to the agreeing that you are all welcome! |

Yehhhheeeeh we love all Yorkie types and other dogs too....DOGS RULE !!! :D Debra x x x x |
Thank you for starting this thread! I too felt uncomfortable when I first joined because I had a yorkie mix and the name of the forum was YorkieTalk. I didn't know if I would be welcome or not. But that didn't stop me from blabbing about my baby and now babies. All of which is yorkie poos, well except Tawny. We're still not sure what she is but I have ordered the DNA test. I have learned so much from all of you. I hope the newbies that do have yorkie mixes come out and start posting about their furbabies and learn about the yorkie bred just like I did. So, to all the newbies out there come tell us about your furbabies. :D |

Bentley is a mixed breed too! i love my little boy! :animal36 |
I am so glad you started this thread! Bella is a Yorkie/Bichon! She is my baby! I was actually searching for info after I got Bella & found YT! I bought her from a breeder who also breeds Yorkies. I picked her out....she was chosen! I thought it would be hard choosing, but the breeder told me to come into her home, spend time with the babies, & that I would know once I saw their personalities. Of course I played with them all.....they were all Adorable, but for some reason, we bonded almost immediately!!:D My daughter had a Yorkie/Bichon & I Loved his personality.....couldn't wait to get one, so I finally got Bella from the same breeder as my granpuppy.:D My step-daughter has a Yorkie that we love dearly. She wanted an older Yorkie & bought him from puppyfind.com. Well, he was shipped, she paid alot for him. When he arrived, he was skin/bones & older than expected!:( She has given him a Loving home & nursed him back to Health! :D He now plays like a puppy with Bella/Cole! There are all kinds of sad stories & negativity should not be focused on mixed breeds. Love for All furbabies!!:aimeeyork:doghop::dogwalk::dalmation |
I AM a Morkie Breeder!!!! Hi everyone! I am Proud to say that I am a MORKIE BREEDER! (gasp!) I have been a member of YT for a couple of years now. I posted a question a few years ago and was blasted so badly that I have never posted another until today. Let's see what kind of feedback I get now that I am 'out of the closet!" I am surprised to see how many people actually speak freely on this site now about their 'hybrids'! It's great! I have SOOO much to say, but will try to be brief! Just as there are many bad purebred Yorkie breeders, there are bad Morkie breeders. We all know that Yorkies, as with all other breeds, were created as a result of mixed breeding. There is a huge difference in breeding your heinz 57 dog with the neighbours mutt because you think they will produce cute puppies, and breeding to create quality pups. It is not fair that people who breed pure breds are thought to be decent, responsible people, and anyone with mixes is a back yard breeder or a mill. Certain Kennel clubs are so hypocritical - they reprimand their members for breeding hybrids, forcing them to hide what they are doing. Then after years of breeding these hybrids, and with proper documentation, these breeders announce to the world that they have created a new breed, and the kennel club says "Oh, congratulations, you are a wonderful breeder, please tell us how you did it so we can all learn from you!" How do you think new breeds get created in the first place? I have put in over a decade of breeding with my foundation stock (of whom are REGISTERED purebred dogs). I can easily have purebred Yorkie pups, but I choose NOT to. There are many different reasons why I prefer Morkie pups over Yorkies, but because I am trying to keep this short, I will not go into this here. The important fact is, breeding Morkies is a choice I make, not because I am limited and cannot produce purebred Yorkies, not because I can make more $$ because obviously Yorkies are sold for more than Morkies, but because I want to. It is a breed (hybrid) that I love, and I am very serious about continuing with this combination beyond the F1 and F2 levels. My dogs are pets, well loved, healthy, happy, with the best of care. I do not breed dogs with any known congenital defects, and would never breed a bad natured dog for fear of creating ill tempered offspring. This past weekend, I was at a CKC sanctioned Dog show, obviously not to show, but to keep on top of the breed standard and network with Yorkie breeders. As any breeder should, I am always looking for an oppurtunity to improve my breeding stock, and where else is a better place to do so than at this type of event. My point is, that there are serious 'hybrid' breeders who do so for the love of the breed they are producing, not out of convenience. Unfortunately, certain Kennel clubs have spread so much propaganda that many people think all purebred breeders, and members of these kennel clubs are dedicated, devoted individuals. Those of you who are breeders know this is not true. We are all different, and have different ethics and standards. All you need to become a member of these clubs is to fill out a form and pay a fee. It says nothing about how you treat your dogs. Don't criticize me because my offspring are not eligible for AKC/CKC registration (yet). We should all be able to talk openly, we can all learn from one another. Just as I don't want to be lectured on the evils of mixed breeding, I am sure that purebred breeders do not want to be told about the evils of line breeding/in breeding - common practises in the purebred world which has caused most of the congenital defects our pets suffer from. We are in this for the love of dogs, and should all be able to talk in order to learn and take better care of our furry friends! Sorry for the long post, but I have SO much more I can say. And please, if you don't agree with me, fine. You are entitled to your opinion, but please, let's be mature, no death threats please! It doesn't matter, I am PROUD to be a Morkie Breeder!!!!!!:D |
