Bringing home a yorkie Hello, I am getting my new puppy, 11 week old, female yorkie in a few days. I was hoping you could provide me with a few tips on how to best help her adjust to her new home. My biggest concern is my mom has a chihuahua puppy, whom I love by the way!! I am getting this yorkie for my birthday. I originally and really wanted my mom's chi, but my husband isn't fond of chihuahuas and insisted if I were going to have a puppy in our apt. it not be a chi. Anyway, I am hoping the two will be life long friends, but am concerned or question how to go about introducing them and when to do it. Could you please provide info on how to not only best get them together, but especially how to make it smooth and pleasant for the both of them. I am worried my yorkie will be overwhelmed if I put them together too soon, she'll fly in on the 19th. And I am worried my mom's (pretty much mine, we both are extremely attached to each other) chi will be jealous and resent the new puppy. Any recommendations greatly appreciated :) |
Can't really help, just bumping your thread up for others to see. By the way, WELCOME TO YT and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! (My birthday is on the 19th too :)) |
First off, congrats on getting a puppy. :yorkiesar Have you decided on a name yet? Please post pictures as soon as you can. As anxious as you are to have them meet, please wait until after your baby gets through all rounds of her shots. Actually my vet said to wait 2 weeks after the last shot before exposing Gracie to other dogs, or areas other dogs frequent. When I would take her out with me I held her and didn't let her down just to be safe. I know you will be wanting to take her out to pet stores and parks and of course to meet your mom's Chi, but the few weeks you'll need to wait is a small price to pay to ensure her health. And I'm assuming that the Chi has had all it's shots too. In the mean time perhaps you can take a blanket with your babies smell to your mom's Chi so that the Chi can get use to your babies smell. That way when they actually do meet hopefully it won't be too much of a surprise. Good luck and let us know when you get your girl!! |
