Pre 1920s Yorkshire Terrier! I found this on the net whilst searching for something else The British Pet and Specialist Yorkshire Terrier Club I've never heard of this and had no idea this was going on, it seems that a group of people are trying to bring back the original Yorkshire Terrier. I know there is a similar trend happening with Bulldogs, genuine dog lovers are trying to breed out the problems caused by selective breeding by selective breeding in reverse, I guess:confused: They are only using KC reg healthy dogs in their breeding programmes and are organizing their own shows too. What do you all think of this? I should point out that the club itself is mainly for loving pet owners and I don't think they are encouraging irresponsible breeding they are just trying to educate and are hoping to create a foundation to recreate the Yorkie as it was originally intended, as a working type Terrier rather than a pampered lapdog.IMO anyway. |
whats the difference, we have yorkie-poos, etc, but we have pure yorkies as well, not sure thats it's anything but a yorkie club. All breeds have a class they fall in, but doubt many dogs are used as they were in the beginning as work dogs. The World changed and so did these small loving dogs.. my lap is just perfect.. lol... |
Oh don't get me wrong Mika is a cuddle loving pampered pooch too! I think they just want to steer breeding away from the tiny doll face look to a more traditional look. They are not thinking of turning our beloved breed into vivacious rat killers!LOL! I think they prefer the Teapot look and are championing the slightly larger more robust yorkies. All of the dogs the breed/show have to be KC (in the UK) registered. |
I didn't see anything that addressed nose length, but it also sounds like they want to do away with the beautiful Yorkie hair. Maybe these breeders already have a bunch of dogs that match their description, floppy ears, 7-23 pounds, with short hair? |

Most Yorkies are related to the famous Huddersfield Ben, and this picture of him shows that the breed has definitely improved in appearance since his day. However, even he had stand-up ears. Image:Huddersfield ben.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
When I clicked on the site, it almost seemed to be a breeders description of what he/she was breeding. I guess it is a full disclosure of the persons view of what a yorkie should be (jmo). My dog is not a show dog, so it is no matter to me what the "specifications" of a yorkie should be; all I know is mine is happy, healthy and loved. I couldn't click any links to go further into the site. Was it to be a forum? I would have liked to read more to better gather research to reach an educated opinion. Left with out more information I say why bother going back to the site. |
