why do they do this? Why do they eat everything off of the floor like babies? I feel like I have to constantly watch him while he sniffs around to make sure he doesnt eat anything that will make him sick. He will sniff around and all of a sudden I will see him chewing something, then I have to pull it out of his mouth. It is worse at my grandmothers house. She has carpet and seems to always have something on the floor, food etc. Izzy is 2, do they ever get out of this stage? Or is it just what dogs do? This is my first pet and after two years, I am still getting used to their weird habits LOL:rolleyes: |
Haha, Epsilon is the same way. My husband and I actually call him "little scavenger" :D |
Funny you should type this....i was JUST thinking about this yesterday when we went to the Pet store for food and he picked up a piece of kibble off the floor. I hear this "crunching" and i look down to see Pasquale happy as a clam chomping on a piece of kibble. Ughhh!! I feel like i'm constantly sticking my finger down his throat LoL |
i know me too! i feel like i am watching a 1 year old. he's like a little vacuum cleaner lol |
I think some dogs just don't outgrow this. Baxter will be four next month, and he still eats leaves, grass, bugs, you name it! I'm also always sticking my finger in his mouth to see what he's chewing. Snickers, on the other hand, stopped eating off the floor around 2 yrs old. Looks like all we can do is TRY and train them not to......and if anyone can actually do this, please let us know! |

Gus does this, too! Every piece of food, fuzz, thread, hair, etc. that lands on the floor! He's even tried to eat sawdust and nail clippings, but he can never seem to get them to the back of his tongue and ends up spitting them out, thank God! But it all comes out in the end, if you know what I mean... |
Oh My! I have the same problem with Katy Lou. Everytime I turn around she is "chewing" on something. I am trying to teach her to "give it up" or "trade". I am sooo afraid she will find something harmful and swallow it without my knowledge. She's making me paranoid. I vacuum every week and I have all tile floors but she still finds tiny pieces of who knows what. |
Lucy is 3 and still feels the need to eat random things. She also still enjoys knocking over trashcans and pulling the toilet paper off the roll. |

now thats funny...izzy hasnt figured out that one...thank goodness!:p |
Lola loves to eat everything off of the floor. I am trying to train her to drop it when told, but I don't know how well it is working so far. I sure hope she stops doing this soon, but I doubt it! She also loves to eat bugs outside! YUCK! |
Nate is also like this. He just bites and sniffs everything he sees on the floor! |
