Does Belly Band/Wrap helps prevent the habit of marking territory? Hello, Mocha (8 months old Yorkie) tend to marks in the house. Does belly band or K-9 wrap really useful? Any suggestion in how to correct his marking habit? Thanks! |
welcome to YT....my male wears a bellyband 24/7...he still thinks he is marking but no mess...they are great |

bellybands are long rectangular ....like a flat tube with velcro at both ends.....i make Smokey's...they are very easy to make.....i change him twice a day....we use Serinity pads on the inside.....and wipe him with baby wipes when we change them |

Serinity pads  Great Idea! I'm not so good in sewing, just found one on ebay for $6.50 including shipping :) Thanks for the help! |
Getting your dog neutered helps with marking, but if that isn't an option, bellybands are great. Use a sanitary pad inside, and remove the bellyband, occasionally so that the dog can do his regular urination. Remember, marking isn't the same as peeing, and the bellyband isn't meant to hold his pee, but the fluid from marking. As far as training not to mark, this is largely unsuccessful in unneutered dogs, the tendency to mark is too wired into their brain. Many methods have been attempted, and even some that are extremely aversive, yet all have failed. You can cut down on the tendency by cleaning up marking accidents with a cleaner that has an enzyme remover in it, because as long as the dog can smell this protein, he will mark the object again and again. |
there are quiet a few sellers on YT that would give you a discount for being a YT member....good luck with him......and you would probably be able to sew them yourself....if you can sew a straight line you can make a bellyband |
Mine is 24/7 also Like TnYorkie Mom, my littly Ratty wears his 24/7 and he just thinks it is clothing - knows no different. I have found he needs to be changed about 2-3 times at home (another male dog and male cat live with us) and if we are at my mother-in-law's house where there are no animals, I never have to change him. I use Poise pads because they truly wick ALL moisture away from his little fur tummy and we also use baby-wipes. He adapted immediately. I try to give him some time during the day without it just so he can dry off - he is on timed feeding and we eat together in the morning. I feed him while we both sit on my bed - I do my makeup and he eats, diapy-free! I got mine on ebay for $5 including s&h and the proceeds went to dog rescue - he has about 20 now, different fabrics, for holidays, etc. With new carpets, this changed our lives! I LOVE BELLY BANDS |
My Sam also wear his 24/7 and he still lifts his leg and he thinks he is going on the furniture, but instead he is going in his bellyband...LOL |
it was nerve wrecking but also a little funny when we first caught Smokey marking his territory....he is short and compact....so his pee line is only about 2-3 inches above the ground.....i went to the kitchen and he had marked all around it.....across my stove, the dishwasher, and the frig....and a small wall that we now lovingly call the Smokey wall....cause even with cleaning and cleaning you can still see the dark line about 2-3 inches off the floor....lol....little stinker!!! |

I had to neuter my Marcel quite late (10 mths) and I tried to use the belly band for a while when his hormones kicked and he started to mark and going off of his potty pad. I honestly hated the BB - his tummy was messy, and you really need to change it a LOT to keep them clean/dry as they usually mark quite often (and Marcel was about 2 lbs at the time!). Of course, for breeders I think the BBs are a godsend :)!!! |
i know they have been a godsend for us.....he is a little stinker....he thinks he has to mark everything....as soon as someone comes in my house he will try to "mark" them and their belongings....lol.....we all get a big kick out of it now cause of course he cant mark them through the belly bands....i keep having to make more of them....he hasnt gained anymore weight since he turned 15 months but he is "bulking" up....as my hubby calls it.....he looks like a little body builder....lol.....hubby says all we need to do now is "train" him to change his own "diaper"....lol....now if we could do that i would have a new business wouldn't I? |

Smokey marked my hubby's work boots...and they were brand spanking new at the time.....he had just laced them up......i had to spray them down with Lysol.....worked...he didnt do it again....without the belly band that is.....he "marks" them everytime my hubby takes them off when he wears them....lol....and they are the best of buds.....lol |
Wylie's Mom....this is a little off topic sorry but while you are here i have to ask........im a 1000 club member....other than the fact that i have over 1000 post what does that mean...some have said things about other forums and intitlements but i have not been offered anything...is this true? |

OMg-I am gonna die laughing. We went to my best friend's house and Ace 'marked' in her packed suitcase  and then on her chair leg then on HER!!!!!! I thought I was gonna die. He is so tiny and it sure looks funny. Hoping the neuter helps though. |
We are having this problem with Brady also. He isn't neutered and he is almost 7 months old. I need to make that appointment. |
My boys were both neutered young, but still mark. The belly bands are wonderful!! They haven't taught my boys not to mark, but they sure help the floors, furniture and doorways in my house! |
I knew I loved Peppee for more than one reason! Believe it or not...he does not do the marking stuff...knock on wood that Brady doesn't start...We have three males in our household neither Pep or Zeus...If Brady is staying..he & dh are going to have appts made for the big snip snip. :sidesplt: :nursing: Zoe has turned into my marker...she is a _itch! I just made my bed (we keep three comforter, one set of sheets and two bed pad/protector things...gave them all bathes tonight and came upstairs. Zoe kept barking to get up on the bed..so I toss her over there and what does she do...PEE! I am flying over to rip everything off before it gets to my mattress...all I have to say is she is one lucky lady.... |

My Brady will be 5 months on the 29th...He pees everywhere...I really haven't done a good job at even trying to potty train him...He is so smart but I have been ill and it seems to be a bit harder with having the three and with the husband and two boys...no one has been about consistancy with the poor little boy...Zoe on the other hand is potty trained and knows better! She is a little diva that forgets who the gueen B is..and is soon going to get knocked out if she keeps this up...just kidding...I am going to just have to order her a cute diaper before every inch of flooring is ruined. |

my daughter's yorkie wears them 24/7.....she doesnt like them but she was never trained before....so i made her a few diapers....which have been hard to get right...she is very very skinny in the rear....so cute though...we use ultra thin serenity pads in her diapers..they work fine.... |
