Yorkie Bahaving Badly! Hi, I have a 13 month old girl who is adorable, but out of control lately. I recently went back to work after being off for the summer, so she got used to me being home all the time with her and rarely being left alone. She is peeing all over (on my bed, on the couch, etc) and barking alot more than normal. Last night my husband was playing with her and he took his attention away for a few minutes and she peed on the couch right in front of him. Any suggestions on what I can do to stop this bad behavior? I am considering putting her into doggie day camp 2 days a week to get her out and give her the opportunity to play all day with other dogs. What else can I do? Any suggestions are welcomed. We are also considering getting another Yorkie, but I don't want her to teach the new dog her bad behavior. And will she rebel if we do so. Please help! |
While I am not an expert, but I think it might be that she is having separation anxiety. You might want to think about an expen with pee pads to keep her in when you are at work. Then try leaving her for a few minutes at a time and increasing the time as you go. Maybe leaving a radio on will help too. It is hard for us to leave them, imagine being left after having had 100% attention. Good luck. |
I agree w/Mom to Hot Rod, I would consider trying an xpen or crate, she might find it comforting to have her own place. Doggy Day Camp might not be a bad idea either. It would let her burn out some of her energy and ease your mind knowing that she is not destroying your home and is having a good time as well! Good luck and let us know how things work out for you! |
Yorkie Behaving Badly! She is a jumper, so an xpen won't work, but thanks for the idea. I do use a radio, but I always have. I am hoping camp may take the edge off. Keep your fingers crossed! |
I would also get some of the panties to put on her while she's running around the house (while you are at home) until you get her back straightened out. Also, I read on here way back when.. if a xpen is not on option you need to keep her confined to one room until she's back going right & then slowly give her back freedom to one room at a time depending on if she has any setbacks? then she would go back to square one again. |
We used to keep Cooper in a black wire pen that he had room to move in as well as a pee pad and food and water. His bed was in there also. He did great in it. We were gone about 7 hours a day and he didnt use the pad unless we were gone longer than that. he got used to holding it and now he stays out of it all the time. We got it a Petland. |
