Rescue dog
 

I have just acquired a 7mo old full blooded(?) yorkie that is 10lbs. She was with a person who neglected her. I got her from a lady who said she had the Mother ad the father. They were both under 7lbs.

Can that happen? She is very sweet and has adapted fairly well. We will have had her for a week tomorrow. She doesn't eat alot. She is thin for her body size. I have a 10yr old Westie that I consider to have rescued also 10 yrs. ago, but she was a puppie. The yorkie seems to be more attached to other to the other animals at our place( cats, dogs). Will she become more attached to us in the future, or will she always be more interest in other animal

First of all.. Welcome to Yorkie Talk. How nice of you to rescue this little girl. As far as her size.. that happens. My TJ's mom was 4.3lbs and his daddy (Dexter) was 3.4lbs. And TJ is 7lbs at 10 months. Just like people, you get different sizes.
I do not know the answer to your question about her being more attached to animals. From past experiences I have had with dogs, it may take a little time for her to learn to trust and love you.. but it will happen. Patience is a key to that, I think. Just love her and she will learn to love you in return. Have you had her to the vet yet? It may be a good idea to do that. He can tell you what you need to do with her eating. Have you tried different dog food? She may just not be used to what you are feeding her.
There are a lot of people on here that have more knowledge of Yorkies than I do and I am sure they will be helping you shortly.

Thanks for your comments. I think I just need encouragement at this time. She does eat, just not as much as my Westie. She was on Puppy chow. I have also bought Science Diet puppie food. My westie has sensitive skin, so I've always had her on this type of food. She has become more responsive since I got her, I"ve only dealt with puppies in the past.

I will tell you Smokey's story. He was born in a puppy mill and sold to a lady who had MS. Actually, her kids bought Smokey for her as a gift and his name was originally Coby. I think during that time frame, he was mostly kept in a crate 24/7. After a couple months, she realized she couldn't take care of him properly and gave him up. The lady she gave him to kept him for two months because Smokey had no potty training experience. She worked on him, but nothing seemed to work. Eventually a lady came and "rescued" him, but kept him for only four days because he was such a mess to handle. Two days later I find out that this lady has a yorkie for adoption and I call her up. The next day I'm at her house to pick up my new bundle of joy and that's precisely what he was. Super friendly, very kissy, and just a joy of a personality, but I think because he was shifted around so much, it just didn't click that he was finally home. He didn't trust us. He refused to jump in and out of cars and when we would carry him outside, he would shake like a leaf. Also, his potty training problem... anxiety. I think because of being in a puppy mill, and that lady probably keeping him in a crate, that every time we would put him in his crate he would have diarrhea and pace in circles until someone would let him out. Because I figured out he had anxiety, I stopped making him go in a crate and suddenly the diarrhea stopped. He was 7.6 lbs when we brought him home from severe weight loss from being sick so often and now he is 14-15 lbs. Today he is a very happy, healthy, loving baby and so very attached to me after all the things I have done for him. He loves his daddy too, but he loves his mommy! Now we can actually crate him with our other little munchkin, but he still gets anxious if he's alone. We can't leave him alone, or he does get sick. He's such a joy to have! We've had him a full year on October 30. Anyways, the point of the story, give it some time. You new baby will come around in time, he just needs to adjust. He's been through a lot. Just learn to read his signs and try to adapt to his needs and you will have a truly wonderful, appreciative, loving dog on your hands. Just don't give up on him. :)
