Yorkie Behaviour question.... Hi fellow yorkie lovers. I have a so many questions about yorkies, but this is one that comes up often. What does it mean when our yorkies put their paw at their forehead and draw it down and across their face, kind of like a salute. Corky does this when he is happy and trying to tell me something. I don't know if it means "I love you"; "Thank you" or what. Usually when he says thank you he comes to me and rubs his nose against the outside of my hand. I get this if he had gotten something special to eat or sometimes after a bath if he had gotten dirty somehow and felt better. The paw over the face he does only once in awhile. It is definitely a communication signal and not an itch thing. It usually happens when I come home after I have been out for a couple of hours or when we come back from a walk TO THE PARK! not just any walk. It kills me he is so cute sometimes. I have learned that yorkies as a breed may have varying personalities but often have very similar behavioural traits. ie: likes getting tucked into bed, dragging their tummys across the carpet etc. Any ideas? |

My new baby boy Yorkie, Scout, does the same thing with paws over his eyes. I pick him up baby style in my arms and he almost looks like he's smiling and puts his paws up by his eyes and kinda rubs. It is the cutest thing I've ever seen! Do you think they know how endearing it must be to do that move on mommie? Anyway, I've started saying "peek-a-boo" when he does it, so he will actually do it on command before long....at least that's the hope. I think as far as communication, it means "ohhh, I just love you so much and want to be your puppy forever"....:-) |
LOL. My male Shiloh does the same exact salute thing with his paws but he does it with both of them. Its so adorable. He usually does it while i'm making of him so I know he's just very happy...... :) |
Callie does that when she wants to play. She usually gets too rough and will bite but when she does that she's just up for a friendly game of whatever she feels like at the moment. (But it's ALWAYS a nice game. Then when she's done I get my hug and kiss.) We taught our mastiffs how to give hugs and I never thought Callie would learn but she did! (I thought she was too small) She's great...she can make the worst day possible the best! |
I've never seen this except if I yell at coco and she is in trouble. She puts her paws over her head and eyes and lays real low on the floor. After she does this all is usually forgotten because it looks so cute I have to laugh. |
Tiah does that when she is feeling exceptionally loving. I actually tried to make a trick out of it but that didn't go so well. I'd say "say bye bye Tiah" but she only did it a couple of times. It is the cutest thing when their paw goes on their face like that! |

Chachi does the same thing when he wants to play. Its funny how they use signals too tell you things. |
Mine do that too. I think it is a sign of being very very happy and content. How long have you been in Paris? |
Trixie does the SAME thing! I find it she does it all the time when she is playing, in a playful mood (which she is coming way out of her shell now and being more of a happy little girl), and wants to get my attention to play! It's sooo cauuuuuuute! |
My baby does that but I think that when she does it, it's just to get the hair out of her eyes! She does it when she first wakes up and her hair looks like a firecracker went off in it! |
nugget does that all the time....dont know what it means but it sure is cute!!!!!! |
