| hviola | 09-12-2008 07:29 PM | I agree with the advice given. Before I ever came to yorkie talk, I got my Triss from a well meaning hobby breeder. I personally thought she was a good breeder. The dogs were well cared for, behaved, standard size and color. A good visual representation of the breed. The pups were very socialized and friendly. Of course, at the time, I never knew to ask her about getting her dogs tested for things they could pass on to their puppies.
Turns out, the breeder, unknowingly is passing on a hereditary disease where the hip joint breaks down. My puppy needs a $500 surgery now to remove the ball joint in her hip. Luckily, I am still under her 6 month health guarantee so she will have to foot the bill.
There is just so much to breeding that I never knew about. I think that this job should be in the hands of the very few special people who have the talent and strength for it. |
