Car sick? Okay, so Mya is pretty good in the car except when there is a lot of turning she'll get carsick, sigh poor baby. She sits in her Outward Hound Carseat and is perfectly content when it's a short easy ride. Well next week i am driving with her from Atlanta to Cincinnati (About 7 hours), and it's her first road trip. Does anyone have any suggestions for mid-drive upset stomach? I was thinking maybe bringing some paper bags, or puppy pads, I just have no idea. Or is there anything I can give to her to keep her from getting sick at all? Any help would be great! Thanks! |
I can't say it helped, but I gave one of mine a half of a ginger snap once when we had an hour long trip. She didn't get sick. I don't know whether it was the cookie or if she just didn't get sick. Ginger is good for motion sickness. |
Car Sick I have had a terrible time with Cooper. He has a booster car seat for the console and everything. Unfortunately, for the time that I didn't take him because of his carsickness he has gotten rather skittish and worse. I started doing what many have told me on here. I don't feed him for about 3-4 hours before. I give him a "Bonnine" pill. Our vet said it was Ok to give him a whole pill because he is a Tea POT and weighs 9 pounds and is very nervous in the car. About 20 min. before I leave I give him 1/2 a Ginger Snap Cookie. I use the Nabisco ones. They are rather strong and he only eats 1/2. If I am diligent and make sure he doesn't get any food before we leave but the cookie he will not get sick. He will eventually lay down and sleep but everytime the car slows down or turns a corner he is up and looking. I know that this will get better with time. I just wish I had started right away when I realized he was getting sick because it really interferred with his socialization. He is almost 8 months and I have quite a handful on outings right now. Patience will prevail. Good Luck Hugs Cher |
Try placing seat in a differnt spot in the car. Try buckling her in a kennel in the back seat so she can not see outside. Could be looking outside aroung turns upsets the inner ear and causes the vommiting. can you block the view out her window so she must look out front. Try gravol, Try ginger snap cookies. said to work. Try a calming CD for car rides with from Through a dogs ear. Take more break when driving. Make sure you have towels and a bag to put them in is she is ill. Take along diaper wipes to clean her up. JL |
