Bringing in a new baby? I have had Jasmine for almost 3 years now and I was thinking of getting a little male yorkie for her companion and was wondering how it might work out. Jasmine is very very very alpha and dominant and I heard the males were also? What tips or suggestions do you guys have for me?? Thanks! |
I know Milo is super Alpha Dog, but I think it may just depend on the dog too. Milo is almost 2 and we are getting a little girl for his companion. They always say that Yorkies are better in pairs, so I think if you just look for a mate for your yorkie that is less aggresive and more on the submissive side, then he and she will be happy working and playing together. Afterall, I think dogs like a pecking order in their pack, and you of course are "Top Dog" lol Since Milo is super macho and alpha dog we are looking for a girl who is smart and sweet that can play well with Milo but let him protect her too. |
I Just added a second baby to my household about a month now. I think if you really do then you need to take her to see the litter and let her pick her partner in crime. I would suggest a male if she is very dominant. I think adding another female might cause a lot of problems. Another good thing once you pick your new baby maybe go by a few times and let her have a getting to know you play date with that pup so they can get used to each other. Last but not least.....when you do finally bring home that baby lots of supervision. |
I have four yorkies 2 boys 2 girls ages 5, 4, 2 1/2, and 1 and it seemed the first day or so after each one was brought home the others didn't like it, but a day or so they warmed up and they all get along fine..i did get mine boy girl boy girl... I want to get her a companion but I really like the idea of taking her to look at them also so she can pick one out. Now I have never had a male animal before is there really any difference with having a male versus a female? thank u guys for all of ur help and input!!! |
I am sure everyone has there own opinion...but my males are more playful than my females..my females are laidback but can be playful at times...my boys are on the go 24-7... Jackson:aimeeyork Gracie:aimeeyork Tucker:aimeeyork Rosey:aimeeyork |

melanie daley, your babies are darling!!! I think when I find a breeder I like i will take Jasmine to pick out her BFF lol, I can't wait but I know it will take a while...ugh, thanks guys for all of the great info!! |
We had Chip for 7 months when we got Smokey and Chip is very territorial and dominant. Smokey is very sweet and playful, but will let you know when he's been pushed around enough. Smokey was 6 months old when we brought him home. We had BAD dog fights on our hands for about two weeks... and I mean BAD until one day Chip just realized that Smokey wasn't going anywhere and he needed to get over it. Now they love each other and I can't separate them or they go nuts! |
I think if you find a good breeder and let them know you want a more submissive dog, you will be fine. I would definately find a breeder that really seems to know their dogs, so they can guide you in the right direction. All dog are different; my male Rottweiler is very submissive. Rotties are generaly described as dominant and dog aggressive. My male Maltese bosses him around all the time and so does my mom's schnauzer. Good for you for taking your dog's personality into consideration. Good luck with your puppy search! |
sisters brooklyn was 10months old when we got bella. bella is 3months old now and we still have some fights. but we also have kissing and cuddling in the same bed. i guess they are just like us, we have our good days and our bad ones.i wouldnt change a think now because we love them both. terryy |
