~~help please!~~ I've been having issues with Javah when it comes to our walks. I walk him every morning and in the evening when I come in from work. My problem is he goes bizerk when he sees me getting ready to go, he jumps, screams and barks like crazy. And then when he sees me reaching in his bag to get his leash it's craaaaaaaaaaaaaazy! Javah gives me such a hard time trying to get the harness and leash on. I then try to calm him and make him sit and praise him before we go out the door. This is just entirely too much to go through twice a day. Please help me! |
Can you try to pull his leash and harness out and leave it on the counter so he can see it and just get used to seeing it out? Maybe this will lessen any excitement/anxiety? |
I use to have a similar problem I had taken my Yorkie to training classes back in January of this year. I had problems of when I came home and him acting up (similar to how yours acts up) to get him out of the gated area. My teacher told me (and I am sure it will work for you) to tell him to calm down. If he won't walk away till he does. Then come back again and try once again to get him on the leash. Eventually, he/she will change. Maxwell changed and no more issues. I would suggest to get him some obedience training to help you. It did me :animal-pa |
The dog whisperer had an episode fabout this a week ago. He advised the people to desensitze the dog by taking the leash down and then putting it back and putting the leash on the dog and then not going anywhere. It might be worth a try. BTW I take 5 for a walk at the same time. You don't know what crazy is until you've tried that. |
Thanks so much! I will try each one out and see if it helps! |
What we did was to leave the leash on him for a while in the house. When he was little it was a great help and something we were told to help in potty training. He was less sensitive to it. My hubby is handicapped and has trouble catching him. (They are sooooo fast) so during the day I still leave it on him if I am not going to be home. We of course watch him closely with it on. |
