He chewed up an electrical cord!!!! So thankfully it was not plugged in. Baxter has all manner of chew toys and he still chews on other stuff. He chews on the base boards, an address book, any pen that he can get his teeth on, and last night he chewed the cord to my hair dryer all the way through. So what do I do? My husband says I'm going to find him dead. He is 9 months old now. I thought the chewing would be over but it is not. He is not crate-trained so leaving him in it is not an option. |
What about putting him in an xpen or gated in a puppy proofed room when you cant watch him. You cant let him have free roam when hes chewing cords. We went through this with our Chachi too. They do outgrow it though |
Here's a link to puppy proofing the house, I didn't leave Joey unattended the first year. If he has access to these things, he will chew them. How did he get pens??? If you can't watch them, they should be in an x-pen, or a room that you are absolutely sure, nothing can hurt them. PUPPY PROOFING YOUR |
This dog CLIMBS! Like a cat. He gets the pens off the coffee table where my husband leaves them. He also gets his reading glasses. Fortunately I've caught him with those before he gets too far. |

Husband is going to Walmart to purchase cage big enough to put his bed in. Hopefully we can crate train that if we can put his bed that he dearly loves in it. Maybe he will get in it. The crazy thing is he did this during the night, the hair dryer has been in this same spot since we got him in Feb. and he has never bothered it before. This morning I thought Wow, Bax slept all night and didn't wake me up. I didnt' realize till later that he had been "busy". |
Your Bax sounds so much like my Suzi.. LOL. She has the exact same behaviors .If Suzi can get a hold of it, then it is hers, and hers alone .At least she thinks so. Suzi is 6 months. Fortunately, she can't jump on our coffee table, but she sure tries! She has also got A hold of pens, Dvd's, everything! What I have ended up doing is to keep all doors closed. Especially the bathroom and my son's room. I am able to watch her all the time, and work with her. I have to make sure nothing is in her reach, or on the floor that she can't have. Or she will find it! Just last night we got back home from the Pharmacy .the bag was left on the couch .Suzi got A hold of it and managed to open medicine boxes:eek: How she did that , I do not know. Fortunaltely the pills were all intact. that scared the heck out of me. Suzi was so proud of herself too .All excited at what she did . since I am home all the time, I do not crate her, i watch her like a hawk. She still manages to get a hold of paper sometimes, and boy, what a mess. I am hoping that she will calm down too . |

I swear they go thru another chewing phase at about that age. Roxie just started chewing cords if we don't hide them all. I just came home and had left the little cubby hole on my headboard open and she got a hold of my phone chafger and chewed it up and it was plugged in. This is the 2nd one in 2 weeks. I am going to find a better place for it. I would definately make sure all cords are hidden. |
for my two males it was just a phase. they stopped chewing things at approximately 1 yr old. before that they always had chew toys and my electricals were safe. when i forgot to put out the chew toys, they would chew on furniture or unplugged cables (never left cables plugged in). |
Bowie has chewed through 2 cords and has a ton of chew toys!! |
