Furbaby attacked! Hi YT! I have not been on in a very long time due to an extremely busy work schedule. This is not regarding my baby. One of my co-workers has a 5lb little yorkie. They were in the elevator of her building with one of her neighbors who she see often and the neighbor was walking a larger dog and then a small one. My co-worker did not think to pick up her baby because they have been in the elevator together before and fine. Well the larger dog attacked her yorkie and tried to kill. The baby girl has been in the hospital for 3 days now with broken ribs and almost died My co-worker called animal control and the police and they said they can not do anything. Then her 17 year old daughter who was a complete mess called and being she is not aggressive they did not offer any information. I called the ASPCA myself. A woman explained it is a civil matter because you can not do anything about dog to dog. The woman gave me the number for Legal Action for animals. I have called for 3 days left message after message and I am not getting a response. The owner of the dog is avoiding her at all costs. And I feel like something should be done. And something can be done. I am just having a hard time finding out what that is. I am extremely busy at work so it is hard for me but I am doing what I can. If anyone is from the NYC area or anywhere that would know what I can do it would be amazing. I cannot tell you how close to home this hit me and to see her everyday not knowing if her baby is going to make it kills me. On another note! I am sure most of you are like me and do not let your baby walk or get to close to a larger dog. I know I pick mine up and we cross the street if I have to. We really never know what is going on inside a dogs head. Even the sweetest dog can turn vicious. And our Yorkies are so tiny that it doesn't take much. This is the 4th incident that I have heard in 3 months. 2 separate times with 2 totally different German Shepards. Both broke away from the owners . 1 attacked and killed a little s**tzue The other attacked and killed a 3lb Yorkie with 1 snap. And I am almost embarrassed to say that a friend of mine is being sued because her pit bull/masitff mix is being sued because he killed a little yorkie. So please, if you are not as crazy as I am when it comes to your baby around larger dogs.. start now! Again any info on how I can get some help for my co-worker would be great! Thanks YT Faith |
I'm keeping your friend and her yorkie in my prayers, I hope he's able to recover. Has your friend contacted the management of the building? This dog is obviously vicious and is a threat, I don't see how authorities could ignore a vicious dog like that? Did she contact the police department? I really don't know information about who to go to, I don't live in NY and (knock on wood) haven't been in a similar situation, but I would assume that animal control or the police would be required to do something since this dog is aggressive. I wish your friend the best! |
I just saw a very similar situation in the RIP forum and her situation is similiar to what you are going through and she is suing the owner of the dog that attacked. There is also a link inside this link to what happened with her. I hope this is helpful~she is from NY too. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/mem...aily-news.html I am so sorry for what has happened to your friends baby. I hope he is recuperating and will be home soon.:( |
I cannot offer any help, but wanted to say your friend and her yorkie are in my prayers.. and I sure pray that baby will live and be ok.. I use a dog stroller for the most part.. I am paranoid of a larger dog getting in my way.. I would only think she has contacted the super of the building or the owner of the building.. for it a dog can attack another dog.. I feel they can do like wise to a child.. anne |
Thank you! She has tried to talk to management, the police, animal control. And they say nothing can be done. She is bringing me the phone numbers that she has called already so I can try. She speaks very broken English and I hate to think that the language barrier is the reason she is not being helped but I will stop at nothing. |
OMG That's AWFUL !! I'm always scared of that happening and keep my girls away from ALL big dogs - I'm so so sorry for your friends little yorkie....I hope she recovers bless her heart :( |

I'm like you when it comes to Abby and Daisy! I scoop them up when ever a large dog is near! Abby and Daisy will both bark at bigger dogs and show no fear. Better safe than sorry. I sure hope this baby heals. |
So sad. Kudos to you for being such a help for her! I always pick up the kids around big dogs. Some folk get upset as, "their dog would never do anything", but I take no chances. I'd rather hurt their feelings than risk my boys. |
She must make this a civil matter. Im speaking from professional experience. Your friend MUST: Go to the court house and take out a JUDGEMENT for 5,000.00 which is the MAX in small claims court (and thats the ONLY place they will hear the case). The State will then SERVE the owner of he dog with a judgment notice/notice to appear in court. And they must or they lose the case. They also get a judgment against them for 5 grand that will NEVER GO AWAY until they pay your friend. Thats American Justice. Short of the above advice - your friend will continue being nothing but ignored. File a judgement and things change QUICK! Again - I know what I am speaking of. Not willy-nilly advice. Consider it a free consultation. :p |
**HUGS** To your friend. I agree with TampaGirls file a judgement, it's amazing how people change their tune once they get served with papers. :) I hope the baby gets well soon! |
That's awful, I'm so sorry for your friend and her baby:( I don't know about anyone else, but if I had a big dog, and it killed a little dog, I not only would pay any medical bills for the little dog, and offer to buy them a new baby (not that their baby could be replaced), but I would put the big dog down. Doing anything less is just irresponsible imho. I couldn't continue to even LOOK at my dog if I knew they had killed:( I don't even want to hear about it being their "instinct" to destroy smaller dogs, that's baloney:rolleyes: I hope that you can help your friend through this. Is her baby going to be okay? |
