Bringing home 7 mo old female..ADVICE PLEASE This evening I am going to pick up a 4 lb 7 mo old intact female. :cheer: I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. :cheer: I'm praying that Bernie and Baxter (8 and 9 mo old neutered males) will be as excited as it as I am. Finally, dresses!!!!! :yay_jump: She's litter box trained which will be a new one on me, but I guess she can eventually learn to go out with the boys. If any of you guys have advice on merging her into the mix I would be most appreciative. Is there anything I should know? |
Congratulation!! Can't wait to see her picture!!! :D When you bring her in your house. First bring her to the pee-pee area. Second: You should put her in a crate and let the other dogs smell her . Just for a few minutes. It is a good non-threatening way to introduce dogs to each other. Third: If you are planning on crate training her, make sure she spend her first nap in the crate. She will wake up feeling like the crate is a safe place to be. Do not over pet her right away... The other dogs will get jealous and will be more dominant toward her. I know it's hard...lol keep us update!! |
Oh I'm so excited for you! :cheer: Abby is 7 months old and weighs about 4lbs. I can't wait to see pictures! I can't offer any advice, but I'll wish you the best :) |
Wow - you have gotten addicted to yorkies quickly!! I keep saying I need to get another one to keep my Baxter occupied but I think my husband would kill me. Congratulations!! |
Congrats on your new little girl! |

All that is good to know. I never crate trained, but I have one. I can at least put her in it to introduce her to the boys. So, I'm guessing the litter box should be set up for her when we get there? If you think of anything else, buzz me on my profile page please. |
What fun! Congratulations!:) |
Yay a girl om I'm so freaking exited for you he,he:p |
I got your profile message and left you one, YAYYYYYYYYY!!! Omg, I hear a shopping spree comin' BIG TIME for the GIRL! :D :D :D I'm so excited for you! I wonder if you should put the litter box near-ish to the door? So she starts to associate "outside potty" with the crate too. But then, she may need her box at night if she potties overnight, hm...? Can't wait to see PICS!!! :D :D :D |
congrats... cannot wait to see pictures.. I am sure everything will work out just fine... I have only ever had a problem with one dog that we got.. the rest have all been pretty good.. you sound so excited.. happy for you, it is an exciting time...anne |
oh wow congrats! can't wait to see pictures! |
Oh Congratulations! The advice we got, was to bring them out to the yard to meet, less threatening and that seemed to go over pretty good! Patience, that was another great piece of advice! lol! They are like siblings, they will argue, fight and love each other! |
Congratulations. :) That is so exciting for you. Lucky you, now getting to buy girly pink doggie clothes. Good Luck with the introduction and on her lst night with you. :goodluck: I hope things go smoothly. |
Have you named her or are you keeping her name as is? Congratulations on your new daughter. I will be looking for pictures. :D |
I am glad you posted this thread as I am also getting a 7 month old girl who was fixed yesterday. She comes home next week so I too am reading the advice you get. I have a fixed 7 month old male. |
