discipline? hello! i am just wondering how you guys here discipline your pups. On the rare occasion they do something that you don't want them to do what are your methods of teaching them that their behavior is unacceptable? I have tried putting Molly in a down stay and that works sometimes but sometimes she is so persistent about getting up and she just won't listen. Any suggestions? Thanks! |
I know it flies in the face of EVERYTHING you read about crates, but when ours are being "boisterous" meaning, they won't stop barking, or jumping, or just quiet down in general, we tell them to get in their kennels. They get in, and we may or may not close the door. They associate kennel with "quiet time", and know not to step on paw out until we tell them to. When they do other things (biting at each other, bullying), just a stern NO! always works for us. |
we use the ole squirt bottle, Some times if they just see it, they stop what they are doing.. |
Well… for my boyfriends dogs we have taught them relax when they are getting too wild. If they don't stop they are sent to their bed. Suri is learning no quite well. The only problem I have had is when she is in her pen and barks. I have tried pennies in a can, spray bottle and it didn't do anything but make her bark more. The only thing that has worked is ignoring her. (she has her own room, so once she realizes I am not coming back she stops. ) It has gotten about 75% better! :) She is only 10 weeks old, but has made a lot of progress. :) |
I think it depends on the temperment of your dog. If i raise my voice at Layla that is often enough because she is a very sensitive girl. When she gets barking and needs to stop.. i pick her up and turn her over and hold her down and say NO... today that didn't work (she's been VERY bad lately with barking) so i used Ceasar's method and pushed her into submission by pushing down on her shoulders... and that really worked today.. she was in my lap waiting in the car so i'm sure it didn't go "perfect" but it made her stop and she kinda looked at me like.. woah.. mom.. so sorry! |
