those who have taped ears up.... so i've posted on here earlier about trimming his ears to get them up b/c ted had one ear that WAS up. it's been about 1 week now and neither have popped up. I'm too much of a 'chicken' to get his ears trimmed b/c i love his cute hair on them. who has taped their yorkie ears up? how long do they need to stay taped? |
In order to tape the ears...you have to shave them first. The weight must be reduced not to mention the fact...the tape sticks to the hair. Using a brown grocery bag...or something of this weight. Cut a V shape...place this inside the ear, tape front and backside of ear...then the other ear...then tape straight from one to the other..holding them upright. Tape for 3 days...remove for a day...tape again if necessary. |
When you hold his ears up do you think it looks better? Some Yorkies with bigger ears look better with the ears folder down. It's quite possible to train them to go up, but be sure this is what you want. One member said that she massages the ears frequently to promote circulation, and this is all that was necessary. Taping is the best way, but as Bchgirl suggested ears must be shaved first. Most Yorkies have the top third of the ear shaved. I think the folded ear can be really cute, and if you aren't planning to show, I wouldn't worry about it. |
2 Attachment(s) I had to tape both Molly and Brady's ears..Molly's finally stood on their own at 10 weeks and Brady's was about 2 weeks later when I finally had enough with his one lazy ear..now they both stand straight up. Pictures are of Brady |

Hello there! I am a new Yorkie owner, got her 2 months ago when she was 4 months. The breeder was taping her ear, but didn't tell me about it because the ears were standing a few days before I took her home. However, a few days after arriving at my house, the left ear started to droop more and more. I thought she looked so cute!! But I was worried that other people might not appreciate it as much as me and treat her less, er, nicely just because she's not "perfect", so I went on to learn how to tape. A week, two passed by, after several tapes, still droops when I take it off. Went on to research some more, and the next thing I did was shave the ears. Well not really have, more like cut it really short almost to the skin because I don't have a shaver. Oh, the life of a single girl! :D Anyways, it stood up or shall I say stopped drooping immediately! The hair's grown quite a bit since then, and 2 days ago the left ear was drooping again, so I cut the hair again. Stands up no problem. I never put the tape anymore. Not because i am against it, but because Mocha is a rambunctious girl and it's very difficult to clean the ears. Besides, if it stands just with less hair, why tape? If you really want them both to stand, I think it best if you just try shave the hair first. In my experience taping can be very difficult if your baby won't stay still. But it's up to you. In my opinion, hair will grow back :) I think Mocha is perfect any way, but you can see in my avatar how smart she looks with both her ears standing up :D For me, shaves and massages is enough, thank the puppy gods. |
