Excessively hairy ears? :confused:Does my little Walter have excessively hairy ears? I read where people dont even have to pluck out the inside hairs, if I let it go for to long it gets to be a fuzzy jungle in there. I hate doing it so I put it off sometimes then I get scolded at the Vet. Also on the outside backs of his ears, the long hair grows almost to the tips of the ear & weighs them down. I only trim the 1/3 that I should but maybe I should take it down further? |
Our groomer trims Shelby & Seymours ears...the tips of their ears are trimmed with the contour of the ear.... she does a nice job. Can I suggest that you try a reputable groomer that can do it for you?...... Then you can see how it is done..... (my groomer just trims... we give them baths first..... and so it don't take very long.... I just watch and wait while she does it..... and I have learned a LOT!) |

All Yorkies are Hairy! I don't think some Yorkies have more Hair than others, all Yorkies are Hairy the only difference is the texture and thickness of their Hair and the rate that their Hair grows? Which depends on Genetics/Breeding and their Diet. As I retired Breeder and self-taught Groomer (Yorkies Only) I usually start plucking/shaving their Ears around 6 weeks old so they will get used to the touch & feeling/sound of being "Groomed". It's best to pluck quickly and shave both the inside and outside of their Ears at least 3/4 b/c 1/3 off the tip is still not enough, the Hair weighs the Ear down in a Puppy. They also can get Yeast Infections from Bathing if you don't dry their Ears out. The Ears will also look smaller and help them stand erect w/c makes them look more expressive or curious/cute!:p |
