New to yorkie talk! :) Hi everyone. My names Rachel and I signed up with yorkie talk a few days ago. I've been looking for quite some time for that special yorkie. I'm taking my time as I don't want to buy just any yorkie that jumps out at me. I do plan on getting a female. Since they are small should I wait to get her spayed? If so how many months? I've also been looking through some threads and some have said that there yorkies have had to get their baby teeth pulled... will some fall out on their own or is it just expected that you'd have to take them to get pulled? :( I can't imagine having to put my dog through that much pain. Well I'm excited to use this site and I'm hoping I learn a lot of stuff! Sorry for so many questions. -Rachel :) |
Welcome and good luck finding your special baby. Our baby had all of her baby teeth fall out on their own. But she had to have her front teeth pulled later (when we had a cleaning) because they were so small, it was nearly impossible to keep them from decay. She did just fine though. Just make sure you keep your little one's teeth clean.:):) |
Welcome only one of mine had to get a couple teeth pulled the other one hers just fell out on their own. good luck finding the right baby |

Welcome to YT! my little girl was spayed as of a week yesterday & had a few teeth pulled (he didn't pull them all b/c said some would come out on their own, but he did wiggle a few) But I'll tell ya after the first two days she was her normal little crazy self! :) lil bit, I tried to look in nursery to post but didn't find it-I looked at your homepage & your babies are gorgeous! I'll take rocky, river & matisse too!! It's just something about those little faces :) |
Welcome to yorkie talk! |
Welcome!! If any retained puppy teeth are there the vet should remove them at time of spay. On a smaller yorkie I would rather wait longer..on my Nadia (she is 3 1/2 - 4) I waited until she was almost a year old. I had her retained puppy teeth pulled and spayed all at the same time. She never came into heat before that either. They let me bring her home that day and she was did so well I had to crate her because they are NOT supposed to run around a lot at first!! Crazy girl! LOL Good luck finding your baby!! |
Welcome Rayray! Hope you get your little girl soon! You'll find a lot of great information here; wish I had known about it before I got my first Yorkie~ |
Hello! welcome to YT!:D Goodluck in your search for your yorkie girl..My Pixie is a tiny girl and I waited till she was 13 months old to have her spayed because I wanted her to reach her maximum size before putting her under the anaesthesia..when you come to have your future girl spayed the vet will probably suggest pulling any retained baby teeth at the same time..it is best to have them pulled because they can cause all sorts of problems later on..especially with food becoming trapped between them. My Pixie had 7 baby teeth removed while under for her spay so she didn't know anything about it..she wasn't sore afterwards either and she came through her spay brilliantly for such a tiny girl...she also had her microchip inserted and her nails trimmed too..:) |
Welcome to YT and good luck in finding your little girl. Lil Bits washable pee pads are great! |

Hi Rachel, welcome to YorkieTalk, glad you are doing your research, a Yorkie is a 15 year investment, and finding the best breeder you can, will really save you lots of money and heartache in the future. I'm glad you are going to get her spayed, and the best breeders insist on this, so look for one who feels this is important too. Yorkies do lose some of their teeth on their own, I found a couple on the floor, but the remaining were pulled when Joey was neutered. Some people don't do this, and the double row of teeth can lead to many later dental problems. It's great that you are willing to learn, and people with that attitude get the most out of YorkieTalk! |
Welcome, nice to meet you. My 7 month old is going in tomorrow for spaying and teeth removal. Almost everyone I know with Yorkies has had to have some teeth removed. It seems pretty common on YT, too. My 6 yr old had some removed at spay time too. She also had some come in afterwards and I waited for those to fall out on their own and they did. Time will tell if my baby will have more come in later, she doesn't seem to have her canines in on top yet. |
