People are so rude So my b/f and I just moved into this gorgeous new place in June, and we LOVE it.. Anyway, we have met all the neighbors, and everyone is really cool... BUT....... Last night I get home from work, and there is a note on my door.. Plain white paper typed, no author. It says: "Can you stop your dogs from yap yap yap"!!! What the hell am I supposed to do about that? I am SO mad!! And I have NO idea where it came from, and whoever did it obviously wants to stay anonymous.... :thumbdown |
OMG-how rude-and to not even know who it is!!! The nerve of people! :( |

I can see saying something to someone if their dogs are truly creating a nuisance. (It's alot better than them calling the police about it.) I don't get why they couldn't just ask you though? Maybe since you just moved in, they don't feel comfortable enough to come and ask you face to face? No offense, but if your reaction to someone is "well, what am I supposed to do about it?" and in a manner as upset as you are being now...I would have probably left you an unsigned letter too. What is the issue, really? That someone left you an anymous note about something, or that they complained about your dogs barking? Or both? I understand you are upset, I'm just not sure which of the two issues you are upset about. |

And the thing of it is that they don't bark that much... I know that because my neighbors are teachers and have been home all summer and I have asked them several times if they bark, they said that they do every once in a while, but nothing thats annoying by any stretch. He did say that the first week they barked a lot more, but I think that was b/c they were getting used to the differnt surroundings, and noise ect.... There is this crusty lady that lives two doors down who is pretty rude to everyone, maybe it's her... Someone new moved in to the house nextdoor and we were outside talking the other day, introducing ourselves, and he introduced himself to her.... She said "I am not interested in meeting you unless you have lived here at least 10 years".. Then she went in her house and slammed the door!! Maybe it's her?? It's the not knowing that really Irks me, b/c I know they aren't "yappers" I mean come and talk to me like an adult!! |
LOL at you calling her "crusty.":p Well, if you KNOW that they are not barkers, then I can understand why you are upset, but honestly wouldn't worry about it. Now if they WERE barkers and it could be proven or observed that they are annoying the neighbors, that would be different... |
I would imagine that most people would be upset about both issues, to know someone is complaining and the way they chose to confront the issue... |
People stay anonymous because some people want to get even with them for making complaints. Sometimes remaining anonymous is the only safe thing to do. It's probably someone who lives close by and can hear the dogs. Maybe you could turn on a recording and find out if the dogs are barking excessively, or just when they hear a noise. Some people have found that a noise from a television keeps the dogs from hearing all the outside sounds, which triggers barking. Others suggest that confining them to one room that is away from street or parking lot noise helps. If your dogs are truly barking excessively, you might want to read about some behavior modification exercises that will reduce excessive barking. Scootiebootie, a member here, is a dog behavior specialist, and might be able to work with you in this area. With two dogs, they set each other off, and barking could easily get out of control. Responsible pet ownership means that your dogs are reasonably quiet. You could write a note on your door, and say you are working on the problem and are very sorry for inconvenience. Try not to take all of this personally, and try to put yourself in their place. I just read the other replies, and you can't always depend on people who say the dogs aren't barking much, some people don't want to offend, and would rather lie. Try the recording, it's the best way to know for sure. We made a dvd recording of Joey, and I played it when I was just working around here so I could listen to the whole thing for barking noises. |

Look they do not know you and in this day and age it not safe sometimes to confront people that their dogs that they love are being a rlay noise brat. I had he nieghbours help in telling me if they had a problme I took it right to them and said look she a dog and may bark and if it gets bad let me know and I will work on it but if you do not tell me I can not fix it. I did not get one call or note... welll one but it was not my dog it was the puppy upstairs and I could prove it cause my girl ahd been with me all day but I still said thank you for teling me... What I am saying is yes your hurt but turn it around and have it work for you.. tell the nieghbours you been made aware there is a problem and are working on it. Ask them to watch and see if they see any cause from outside to the reason the dog is barking a noise or a person bugging the dog. A dog walking by setting your dog off. Mailman, metor readers can be a big cause. Take this as a chance to help your dog< If it is barking that much is stressing and stress kills. You now have a chance to fix it drop the stress level and make the dog more comfortable. JL |

I just think coming and speaking to someone in a civil manner is the right way to go... The note ticks me off more than if someone just came to us.. Thanks Nancy!! |
