one ear up one down My 16 week old Yorkie puppy has one ear up and one down, it's been this way for about a month. Will the other one eventually come up? He's going to the groomers for the first time tomorrow. Should I have her shave his ears? |
I'd be scared to tell a groomer to "shave his ears". You need to be specific. 've never had my babies groomed by anyone other than me because I've heard too many horror stories on here. If you tell them that make sure they don't take it down anymore than about an inch. Shave the front and back of the ear leather and the sides. You can tape that one ear up too, and it should stay up after 4 or 5 days. |
Use a wahl trimmer and shave 1/3 of the way down from the tip in an inverted "V" Shape. |
Join the club!!! Keoki also has one ear up and one ear down- Every once in a while he will hold it up but for the most part it is one up, one down!!! |
Sissy has one up and one down and it's adorable |
mine has one ear up and one down also! i like their ears hairy so i'm just going to wait until the other one goes up. someone else said it may just take an extra 2 weeks. I'd rather wait than shave their hair and it looks cute now! |
Barons are floppy too... He's now 9 months old. 1 ear is 1/2 up and the other is 3/4. I've had him 3 months now and LOVE his floppy ears. Everyone thinks he's a rare colored Schnauzer instead of a Yorkie, Oh well... He's mine and I LOVE him just the way he is.:aimeeyork Baron's Mom |
We had the same thing happen with our little yorkie at around 4 months. His one ear would go up and down and we never knew if it was going to stay up. Since I liked his ears hairy I left them growing. I was later told that while they are teething their ears can flop and it is very important to keep the leather shaved (or trimmed short) to help the delicate tissue stay up on it's own without having to fight the weight of the hair. By then it was too late for us to shave his ears or tape them, but it has become part of his character. And he's perfect! But when I got my other yorkie I did go to the groomer every other week to get the ears tipped. I would go in and ask the groomer to ONLY tip the ears while I waited and the groomer charged $5.00 for this service. Good Luck! |
Same here one up one down mine is 2 1/2 years old. |
Cooper's did that too, and the shaving didn't help and he wouldn't sit long enough to let me tape them the way they recommend. Sooo. one night he was on my lap especially sleepy and I took some tape and just folded it at the top ( kind of like a burrito) and taped the tape to itself. It stayed on for a couple days. then his ear stayed up for about 2 days, again I did the same thing. When the tape came off his ear stayed up and has since then. they do look cute with one up and one down and I really didn't mind either way but I just thought I would give it a try. |
1 Attachment(s) Why not just leave one up and one down, the way God intended it to be. Mine has the same, and he is adorable. |
Mufasa will be 6 months September 20 and he still has 1 ear up and 1 down. Even the 1 ear that's up doesn't stay up all the time. I took him to the groomers and she shaved the hair there because his long hair was weighing it down but so far that hasn't helped. Ears up or down Mufasa is my baby...........I don't plan to do anything to "make" the ears stand up. |
Lola had one ear up and one down when I brought her home at 12 weeks. She was like that for about another two months, but her other ear came up I its own. I thought she was so cute with one up and one down, I was kind of sad when the other one came up. But that's how she was intended to be, with two ears up. Some I think are meant to be with one up and one down. They're gorgeous dogs anyway so it doesn't really matter. But a friend of mine did have success with the tape method. I wouldn't shave it though, maybe a little trim, but you have to be really specific with groomers. |
My SIL's yorkie had one ear up one down, Arnold our dog before (sadly passed) had both years down. We loved him just the same. Katie often had one ear down when she was teething but is fine now at 16 months. Hugs Shirl x x |
