was baby shampoo a bad idea? please don't bite off my head if I made a huge mistake but my little guy made a huge mess of himself while I was food shopping and I had no more puppy shampoo and grabbed some baby wash in desperation to clean him. He's all squeaky clean and happy now but I am afraid maybe it was the wrong thing to use? |
Some people use baby shampoo on their dogs, and are happy with it. If your dog is kept in a short cut it may make no difference. The high acid content of shampoos meant for humans can over time make a dogs hair look fried because their skin and hair has a higher alkaline content. I recommend using a good conditioner, also, and follow with a through rinsing. Rinsing thoroughly is an important step that many people overlook. |
I hope it's not bad, I always use the tearless baby shampoo to wash Pixie's face when i give her a bath. I use regular shampoo on the rest of her body |
Never thought of conditioner, he has a short coat for now so thank you for the information. |
Baby shampoo I use baby shampoo and detangling spray on scarlet. I think it works really well.;) |
I guess all babies are different, but I used HUMAN baby shampoo once on my two Yorkies and it made them go INSANE with itching. If I were you, I would stick to a natural, mild, tear-free puppy shampoo....made specifically for dogs :) |
I use baby shampoo on Sam...his hair feels nice and soft afterwards.:) |
Using a condioner afterwards is a very good suggestion. My Suzi had Dandruff from a over the counter Puppy Shampoo. She was very uncomfortable, and itchy. I bought a different puppy shampoo from the Vet. It worked perfectly. I also changed her diest to a higher quality food. No more Dandruff, or itchiness. :aimeeyork |
I always use "Grins and Giggles" tearless baby shampoo on the faces of my pups. I have had no problems with it at all. Karen |
I use Johnson's Baby Shampoo on Mufasa but I do know his coat isn't very shiny and I don't know if it's just because that's how his coat is going to be or if it's because of the shampoo. I keep forgetting to do the conditioning thing, that might help with the coat too.....or will it? |

Conditioners are extremely important, especially if you are planning on having a longer coat. |
I use baby shampoo on my baby, hes in a puppy cut and the lavender smells so nice. Plus it makes his fur so soft and shiny and the flakes from his puppy shampoo went away. I didn't start using baby shampoo until I was at my sisters house and that's all I could find when he rolled in something. It works for my dog, though its tearless formula is not tearless for dogs... I still need to use the puppy stuff on his face. I think just like people, all dogs are different. You have to find what works best for you and your dog. |
