Transitioning out of a Crate Hey Everyone! Any suggestions as to how to help Miles transition from being in a crate while I am at work, to roaming free during the day (even if it's just in one room). I live in a two-bedroom apartment, and I've thought about leaving him in the second bedroom with the door shut during the day, but I'm so scared to do it! But I really hate leaving him in a crate all day, especially since I usually can't make it home for lunch. Any suggestions? |
You could put up an xpen and put his crate and pad in the middle of it, so he could still go into when he wants, but gives him more space without it being the whole bedroom. We have two that are free when we are gone and one that is crated. I honestly wish we had continued crating Wrigley. She has separation anxiety and I think she would have felt more secure in the smaller space, but we didn't feel like we were being fair. Camden does great in a crate and I think we will continue with it, we just got her a larger one for more room. We aren't gone all day, every day though. Good luck! |
I would just make sure the room is puppy proof, no wires etc and try leaving him out for an hour or so at a time. |
