Going back to work puppy will be alone all day.. My yorkie weighs 3.5 lbs at 6 months old. When I first got her at about 12 weeks, I was working full time. She seemed to hate being alone all day in her x pen, so I arranged with my hubby for me to stay home with her all day. Well, it's been 2 months of that and I haaate staying home. I know that may sound crazy to some, but I miss my job and I think I'm the type that needs to work. My yorkie cries if I'm out of her view for more than 10 seconds. She has been like that since we brought her home. Anyway, I'm thinking of going back to work. Any suggestions on what's best for leaving her home all day? I have 4 cats that she wants to tackle, and she's not housebroken, so total freedom is not the answer. I don't want her to be unhappy, she's our wonderful baby. Any ideas appreciated! |
I too would hate staying home. Canyon is also one of those yorkies that will whimper, cry, bark and spaz out if he can't see me or be in the same vicinity as me. He's been that way since day one also when I brought him home at 12 weeks. First day back to work after getting him I gated him in my laundry room with all his needs and wants (except me) in the laundry room with him. Came home to a chewed up door frame and wood shavings all over the laundry room. I've had to crate him while I'm at work - he's in a 30 X 19 X 21 inch wire crate with toys/food/water and potty pad at the back. I also leave the television on and he can see it and hear it from his crate. I feel bad that he can't have a little room to roam like he would have in the laundry room and he's only 4 1/2 months and certainly can't have run of the house, so unfortunately he's crated. It's all you can do. I do come home to one spastic screaming puppy that takes a good 5 mins to get him calmed down. |
That's how Sophie was before - when I'd get home from work, she would just be crying and shaking...it was terrible. She broke my heart and really got to my husband. He suggested I stay home with her so she wouldn't be miserable. We have completely fallen for her since then. Any other pet- I would think, would eventually get used to it. I'm not so sure about this one. How long have you been crating Canyon during the day? |
I hear you about the crying. My sweetie digs her head in my hair and whimpers when I get home, and she's only alone for 2 hours a day. When I leave, my husband says she sits by the front door for like an hour after I leave, then lays down for a nap, lol. |
I've only had cats before, never a dog. Cats must internalize everything, lol. Or, at least it's harder to see if they get sad. I don't know how people do this with human babies....maybe I'm the one who needs to toughen up, lol. |
