Rubber Bands for topknots ? Hey, where's everyone getting their rubber bands for top knots? Are you using latex? I got a small bag of orthodontist bands for braces and they work great (got these from my neice, but she no longer has braces, ugh). Just wanted to check and see what ya'll are using. |
I use the latex bands, and think they work the best, this link has good prices. Latex Grooming Bands |
I use the bands that Des sells at go.fetch. I've tried everything and these are the ones I prefer that pull out the least hair and come out without needing to use scissors!!! |
I like the ones at gofetch.com also. You can stretch them quite a bit without breaking them. Some of the others I would pull and break them the first time. Also, the gofetch ones come in a variety of colors. |
Thanks Joey's mom,,, what size would be the best? Winston is just 6 months old, so his hair is not very thick yet.:aimeeyork |

This particular link has a picture of the different sizes so you can get an idea: Latex bands for dog bows I haven't bought bands from this site so I can't comment on them, but you will see the different sizes. I read that size isn't too important, with a smaller band such as 3/16 you might only have to twist once, with a larger band such as 1/4 you might have to twist twice. I would not recommend anything over 1/4 inch for thin hair though. The 1/4 inch size is also the size you see on most bows. |
I too use the bands from my son's orthodontist. He seems to have "bags and bags:" of unused ones. They work great. I am all for recycling and they don't require a lot of wrapping maybe 1 time. I cut them out when I remove them. |
I get Lilly's bands from Wal-mart. They're extremely cheap and you don't have to pay shipping fees but are the smooth "ouchless" bands that stretch a million feet and come out easily without pulling your dog bald. They also come in neon colors, black, clear and I'm sure whatever other color you'd want ;). I love them! I can actually get a hold of them and wrap them as much as I need to without worrying about them snapping in 2. I actually buy most of my bows/bands/barrettes at Wal-mart in the little girl's, little baby or regular hair bow section. There's 3 sections of hair ties in Wal-mart and at the most you'll spend a little over $3 for a pack of several bows . The last set I bought came with several different types of bows, bands AND barrettes and was only like $3.50. |
