Flea comb...
 
Someone asked about what we do for fleas and i forgot to mention that at least twice a day I run a flea comb thro Pita. It is a small comb with teeth very close together. If i come across a flea I send it down the sink!

It saves on bathing her every time I see a flea!

If I ever see a flea on ANY of mine they would be getting immediate rotenone baths and every scrap of fabric in my house would be treated and the place fumigated. For the one you might catch on a comb there are probably a hundred that you don't see laying dormant wherever. A flea comb is not a control method, just a detection one. You need to use a preventative like topspot to keep them from infesting.

I had tenants once with a cat that let the place get infested with fleas and after emptying the place, cleaning and bombing twice I had to call an exterminator to get rid of them.

They are such a pain to get rid off...:( It really sux how dificult it is! I did everything you said when i found a flea on Mojo, i also use a carpet powder and a flea killer spray once a month and spray my backyard every 4 weeks.

Sure it is very important but what i think Sylvan wanted to note was that even if you donnot see fleas on your yorkie, they can still be in you enviroment. Just thinking that for every flea you see there is about 100 eggs in the enviroment that you don;t see. So the best it to treat the dog and the enviroment as a combination.

Yes I know what you are saying, Pita gets Revolution once a month AND K9 Advantix and she takes a Brewer's Yeast every day, I bathe her once or twice a week also,

I live on 4 acres with a ton of cats and various animals so fleas are a part of our daily life, so i was just saying in addition to everything else I do i flea comb her.

The other medications only work when fleas bite, so with the comb I can get fleas off of her before they have bitten her. I just make it part of the routine when we come in from playing outside, this way I can prevent flea infestations.

Oh Bless you I'm getting itchy just thinking about it. I would probably never take her outside!LOL
I just wanted to note for others that might read ONLY your 1st post about the comb and think that was all they had to do to stay flea free.

I use advantage and have only had a problem with fleas when I didnt stay on schedule with putting it on. I use the flea comb to comb Chachis hair out after giving him a bath.
