From experience, the more you do the grooming the more they realize they have to accept it. Mine do NOT like the trimming of ears, paws, etc. In the early Zander days, he would growl, & nip at me... today he stands (they both do) still until it is done. They have come to enjoy the combing to the point of falling asleep while I am brushing. Just sharing. ; ) Quote:

I had to smile when I read your post! When we brought home our little girl, our 5 year old boy wanted NOTHING to do with her. He was used to being an only child and was just fine with that. The new puppy was so hyper and was relentless to play with the older one and he was not having any of it. I remember thinking what have I done? maybe I shouldn't have brought a puppy home since he was so set in his ways at 5 years old. Well...no matter how much she tried to play, he would just bark and run into the other room. This went on for exactly 7 months. He would never stay in any room that the puppy was in and then one day out of the blue, he went up to her. He still doesn't really play with her but he loves her to no end. They turned out to be the best of friends. He made sure to teach her all his bad habits and she was quite eager to learn them!!:angelhalo:biggrin: |
Thank you! I hope to get there. I saw the girls playing quietly today. :clapsmileDezi the older one was hiding and protecting her face, but egging on Cassie at the same time. Dezi wants to play but not as rough and Cassie took it down a notch when she saw Dezi inviting her to play today. Unfortunately, Cassie gets carried away whenever she senses Dezi is playful and that ends it immediately. Today she backed off. I know Dezi was in love with any other animal, that's why I did this. But Cassie is soooooooo boisterous. I'm sure it will calm down as she gets older but who wants to wish away puppyhood. I wanted to do this when Dezi was about 2 1/2 yrs but I had some surgery and financial problems because I couldn't work right away. I don't think it's Dezi's age as much as her mannerisms. She's a very routine habitual girl and she wants things to be as she likes them. Any departure from her comfort zone doesn't work for her. She's a bit uptight. But sosooo cute! I's funny when she gets moody, it doesn't fit with her appearance. Cassie gets spayed Monday:cry8: Maybe she will calm down afterwards. Was your boy at all like Dezi? |
