Grey hair on top of head? 2 Attachment(s) Roxy is 3 months old and the hair on top of her head is still black, but the roots are long and grey, not golden like a lot of other yorkies have. Why is this, is it "undesireable" and will she grow out of it into a golden color or will she always be like that? |
she has premature aging. just kidding, hehe, thats normal. alot of yorkies have that coloring. enjoy her, watch her change , its beautiful ! |

Also, the hair on top of her head seems to be quite fine and thin, and could definitly not hold any sort of bow right now. Will her hair fill out a bit? |
They grey will turn to golden/blonde. bella looked like a little old lady for a bit, now she is a blonde bombshell :) |

she will change colors to prolly grey or a silver. including her back, its crazy. its like hi-lights with out ever going to the salon. man that sounded gay ! |
Joey did this, and he seemed to look bald for a while because hair tips were black, but roots were grey/silver. Eventually he turned all grey on head, and then about 11 months, I noticed it was not grey or silver but beige, but it looked like the whole hair was beige and not the roots, and I swear it had been silver the month before. Gradually the beige got darker, and there is gold in it at the age of two. It really is a neat process, and besides the period where he looked like a little old bald headed man, he looked very beautiful. |
haha so cute! |
My Oscar will be blue and tan once his adult coat completely grows in, and his dark hair is quickly changing as well. Don't worry - it's normal! Here is a description of the ideal adult yorkie coat color from the AKC website: (Your baby is really cute, by the way!) Coat Quality, texture and quantity of coat are of prime importance. Hair is glossy, fine and silky in texture. Coat on the body is moderately long and perfectly straight (not wavy). It may be trimmed to floor length to give ease of movement and a neater appearance, if desired. The fall on the head is long, tied with one bow in center of head or parted in the middle and tied with two bows. Hair on muzzle is very long. Hair should be trimmed short on tips of ears and may be trimmed on feet to give them a neat appearance. Colors Puppies are born black and tan and are normally darker in body color, showing an intermingling of black hair in the tan until they are matured. Color of hair on body and richness of tan on head and legs are of prime importance in adult dogs, to which the following color requirements apply: Blue: Is a dark steel-blue, not a silver-blue and not mingled with fawn, bronzy or black hairs. Tan: All tan hair is darker at the roots than in the middle, shading to still lighter tan at the tips. There should be no sooty or black hair intermingled with any of the tan. Color on Body The blue extends over the body from back of neck to root of tail. Hair on tail is a darker blue, especially at end of tail. Headfall A rich golden tan, deeper in color at sides of head, at ear roots and on the muzzle, with ears a deep rich tan. Tan color should not extend down on back of neck. |
The top of Suzi's head did the exact thing at around 3 months. I heard it can take up to two-three years for a yorkie to reach their full color. :aimeeyork |
My Yorkie has the same coloring on her head and around her eyes and on her paws now as well... |
Hot Rod did/is doing the same thing. One day his little white spot took over his whole head and it look as though his head and body were from 2 different dogs. He is now golden tan. He has really thin hair also. When he was 4 mos you could see his scalp thru his hair. |
2 Attachment(s) Yoda did the same thing and he is a golden boy now |

Yep, Katy Lou is 4 1/2 months old and the top of her head also looks the same way. She looks like she is balding because it is so light and fine. Her bangs are getting at the awkward stage - in her eyes but not long enough for a topknot. So, I use "Pet Silk" topknot gel to keep her "bangs" in place until it grows out. |
I was wondering the same thing, my 13 week old Ben has the same thing, he looks like a little old man with Grey roots on the top of his head, but yes like everybody says, it will change into some sort of color, we just will never know until it happens! :) |
