Dumb question... My cousin and I live together right now, but we live in a townhouse. He has the basement with his cat and I have the upstairs with the yorks. Soon we'll be moving into an apartment together and we'll no longer be able to seperate the pets. What would you suggest we do to keep the dogs from eating the cat food and the cat from eating the dog food? |
I would try feeding them in seperately. If you hav an x-pen for your yorkies, put them in there for their feedings. Another idea to try is to feed all the pets at the same time of day. Then they will be busy eating their own food they may not notice the other dishes. If this doesn't work, then you may have to try feeding them in two seperate locations of the apartment. If it is dry kibble it can be cleaned up pretty easily. Good luck. |
The problem is, we both free feed the animals. Smokey we could get on a schedule, but there is no way Chip would work with that. We've tried. He takes a bite of food, walks away, takes a bite of food, walks away, takes a bite of food, walks away... you get the picture... it takes him over an hour to eat a bowl of food and I have to get to work in the morning. Mojo (the cat) is fed at certain times of the day, but he doesn't eat it all at once. He eats it throughout the day. |
you can feed the cat in a room that is gated off, or many feed them on top of a desk or table or the washing machine where the cats can jump to but the dog can't get to. As for the cats eating the dog food. that is a bit trickier. |
My mom puts her cats' food on top of her dryer and just leaves her laundry room door cracked a little. Her cats have never tried to eat her dogs' food. |
That's what I was thinking...put the cat's food up high, so the yorkies can't get to it. Good Luck :) |
