Did You Know-------????? That on the YTCA website they advertise Purina Dog Chow  I found that interesting considering what everyone on YT has to say about it. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America |
Yes, I did know. It's because there are dog shows Sponsored by Purina. National Dog Shows | Purina.com Dog Shows | Purina.com PURINA, always the innovator, is again the leader in the dog world by supporting this prestigious event and is proud to showcase some of the world's most beautiful, healthy dogs in The National Dog Show Presented by Purina. Purina supports the health and wellness of all dogs through its food and pet care products and by promoting responsible pet care, humane education, canine health research and the positive bond between people and their pets. |
My baby Suzi was fed Purina Puppy chow by the Breeder when i got her . i changed her diest quickly though, LOL. |
I personally have no problem with the YTCA collecting stickers from Purina bags. Purina gives them money for the stickers collected. I think half of it goes to the CHF, and half to the YTCA. Purina has many varieties, and some of the premium blends don't sound that bad to me, for example, the lamb and rice. I don't think we understand canine nutrition any better than we understand human nutrition at this point. I know some people think all the facts are in, but there still is an awful lot of disagreement among the experts. However, I don't feel that this means that they are endorsing Purina, but only if someone were feeding their dog this anyway, could they please send in the stickers from the bags? I should be clear about this, you actually sign up at Purina, and list the Yorkshire Terrier as the breed, don't send stickers to the YTCA, but to Purina. Here's a link to some of the donations they YTCA has made. http://yorkiefoundation.org/SupportedGrants.pdf |
They are accepting money for their endorsement. Plain and simple. |
Purina and pedigree sponser almost all the AKC dog shows. When you go to a show, you will see big bags of free samples being away. |
They sponser alot of handlers also. |
purina supports a lot of the shows. the people of YT make up maybe 1% of all the yorkie owners in the US. There are many more people who don't know about the foods we do and pick up their food at the supermarket. Those people out number us and if they want to help the breed then by all means do so. |

I'll probably get flamed here but I don't think all Purina foods are bad. I don't feed it to my yorkie, but I fed Purina Pro Plan to my last four dogs, along with a lot of raw chicken and beef. These were large breed dogs, from 85 pounds to 130 pounds. They did great on Pro Plan and lived to be very old, ages 15, 15 1/2, 15 1/2 and 16 years old. So, obviously the Purina didn't hurt them and they were healthy all their lives. Purina Pro Plan and Purina One have changed their formulas since I started feeding it 20 years ago, and is not as good quality as it originally was. But, they're still better foods than the majority of pet owners feed their dogs. Also, there were not as many premium dog foods 20 years ago like there are now. I have seen many dogs raised on Purina dog foods all their lives and lead long, healthy lives on it. There are also many show breeders of large breed dogs who still feed Purina Pro Plan, and raise many champions on it. If I was feeding a dog who ate five pounds of food a day rather than the 1/2 cup my Yorkie now eats, I would probably still be feeding Pro Plan, and have no doubt my dog would thrive on it. |
