a boys favorite toy... for those of you that have males... do they have a special toy in peticular they like to get naughty with? nuggets only 4 months or so and he goes crazy with this stuffed female yorkie we got him when he was only about a month old. its his favorite toy, and not only does he hump it, but he also plays with it normally. is it normal for a male to hump so often at such a young age? |
Yes!!! When brand new little Dublin was in wild teething mode, I tried to find a hand puppet that I could put on and play with him without getting my hands torn up. Couldn't find one at any of the toy stores. Tried an animal-head oven mitt, but he didn't like it... Then one day I was walking past a golf store and saw in the window these things that you put over the golf clubs to protect them. They had big animal heads (stuffed with styrofoam) with a long sock-like sleeve. Evidently they weren't selling too well and were marked way down. So I bought one that was a big boxer dog head. Dub LOVED it. It was win win. He got to play and I got to keep permanent scarring from my hands... Now it's always on the bedroom floor, and sometimes he plays with it, but every night when we go upstairs to bed, Dublin has to take a moment and hump the boxer-head before he settles in for the night! It's hysterical. I'll have to get a video before he grows out of it. The darn head is almost as big as he is!! They must be remembering their babyhood or something. For sure a Yorkie thing, because none of my other males have done it!! |
When I first got Cosmo I bought a yorkie stuffed aniaml for him so that it would kinda help the seperation from his brother and sister but all he wanted to do was hump it. Then we got a squeaky green hippo from the YT secret buddy exchange and he loves to hump that. He also loves to just squeak that thing for hours. But he never humps anything else except for that now, for some reason. |
toys for boys I've posted it before... but my Toby has a "tickle-me Elmo" that he just loves to "tickle." :embarasse He's two years old, and still going strong. One of these days, I'll get videos of it! |

No way! :thumbdown Neither of my males 'hump' and if they ever did start, that behaviour would be stopped immediately. That is one thing I will not tolerate |

As far as letting him do it, or not... it's not a sexual behaviour, it's a domination one (from what I've read) I don't encourage it, and my female I had also went through a phase where she used to hump her stuffed puppy. It ceased with time. JMHO, but I figure if I don't make a BIG DEAL out of it, he too will cease his "Elmo" fixation. |

Hey its just nature. Sometimes we forget that they are animals! Nothing to freak out about. If he were constantly humping stuff and being sexually aggressive - now then I would be concerned. |
Chachi has a teddy bear the breeder gave us that is his humping pal. |

for humping he has a sqeaky squirrel that he humps. i dont mind but 1 time he tried it on my arm. LOL that is where i drew the line |
I'm sorry... I in no way meant to say you would abuse your animals, that's the problem with the written word -- too many misunderstandings. Toby doesn't like to be "discouraged" and his little face looks at me like I've hurt him horribly when I even say "no" to him. (and believe me, he gets into enough "trouble" that he does hear it frequently). I, in no way am attacking you for how you treat your dogs, and I hope you will accept my appologies. I was just answering a thread, as you were. We don't all have to agree. I have said more than enough, and won't drag this out further! Again, I'm very sorry you misunderstood my intent. |
humping IS a natural behavior and if anyone doesn't accept their dog doing it thats fine....nugget ONLY humps his little girlfriend and we keep her in our bedroom so no one else has to watch...its a sign of dominance (as they dont get aroused...they mate purely for reproduction and not for pleasure) my vet told me a little humping is normal as long as they dont hump everything in sight! lol nugget has never tried humping a person, and it is hillarious AND cute to watch nugget drag cookie around and play, and hump her! and for everyone who thinks humping is disgusting - thats fine you're entitled to your own opinion most definately but if others who think humping is funny or whatever and want to post pictures or movies then just dont watch them?? i know alex didnt post this thread to start fights... |
Buddha has a stuffed dog named "sheila". lol |
My dachshund had a 'Big Bird" stuffed toy and when he humped it, it said "Peek-a Boo". I finally had to throw it away because you could hear it all over the house. lol Now I have a yorkie also and he humps the dachshund (both are neutered). I try to discourage this, but it really is a hoot. lol |

Is this something that happens when they are weined too early or what? Why did Sully NEVER hav a humping issue but little Marty is a humper at 9 weeks old?! And how to we stop this while he's little before it gets worse?! |
