Wandering Microchip....? I've had Roxy for exactly 2 weeks now, and so far she's been doing fantastic! We picked her up from the breeders house, and she microchipped her for us while my husband held her, and she never even made a peep! Anyways, yesterday she was laying on the couch with me, and I was petting her on her left rib cage (which feels very boney - is this normal?) and I felt something hard, shaped like a grain of rice and it kind of moved around under her skin when I touched it. It didn't seem to bother her, but it got me really worried because I have a feeling it's her microchip! Does anyone know what it could be, and if it is her microchip could that be harmful if it's moving around inside her? I couldn't seem to find it this morning, but I didn't try feeling around too much because I don't want to move it any more. She's got a vet appoinment on Tuesday morning for her second set of shots anyways so I'll ask about it there as well, but I'm just so worried like a new mommy :( My husband calls me the worrier, so hopefully the answers to this post don't freak me out too much! |
It is normal. It is as long as a grain of rice, and it probably is not moving, you are probably moving the flesh around (ie, massaging)! It is typical to feel a microchip. And she should not be boney, but to feel her ribs when pressing down is normal. I hope this helps! |
Forgot to add, a microchip is usually put in place in the upper middle part of the backbone flesh! |
Yeah, I forgot to mention that the breeder did put the microchip inbetween her shoulder blades, so that is why I am a bit worried to feel it down by her rib cadge, closer to her armpit! |
I do not think it should move all the way down to the ribcage. How many inches from the center of the back blade bones is it? Like 1-2 inches? |
Chips have been known to migrate. Ususally nothing to worry about but that is why most vets (or scanners) will run the scan over the WHOLE dog quickly. |
Brooklyn and Britney's migrated some as well. I wouldn't worry about it. :) |
