food and water in the crate? :hmmm33: I'll be crating my 1 year old yorkie? should i put food and water in her crate? she'll be in there for about 6 hours monday through friday |
wrong gender i keep refering to my dog as a girl! Ace is a handsome little fella, not a girl. |
I would recommend keeping the crate in a smaller enclosed room....like the bathroom or the kitchen and keeping the crate door open so that he can go in and out of it and know that it is a safe place that belongs to him. He really shouldn't be in a crate for any longer then 4 hours at a time. Maybe use an x-pen with the crate to give him more space and a pee pad so that he learns it is ok to go potty on a pad. He will also need toys and chew sticks of some sort. But yes, definitely leave him fresh water and food when you are gone for 6 hours. Good luck!:) |
If you don't have an xpen. I have gated the bathroom and put a bed and pad, food, water and some toys. That way they have the choice of moving around and able to all he wants. |
I think water should be available at all times. Usually they don't need food all the time, unless they are puppies. I agree with the others, it's nice if you can put the crate in a bathroom so that they can move around a little. |
